  Rocky Mountain Spring Classic Futurity
RNL NEED A MOVE
by John Moorehouse
RNL Need A Move added black type to her undefeated record, parlaying a fantastic start to a win in the $27,500 Rocky Mountain Spring
Classic Futurity on May 20 at Pocatello Downs. Ron and Laurie Moosman’s homebred
filly improved to 2-0 in as many outs, and the $11,000 prize for the stakes win boosted her career bankroll to $11,300.
RNL Need A Move broke her maiden by winning her inaugural out
in the trials for the Rocky
Mountain Spring Classic. In
the process, the filly covered
the 330 yards in :17.156,
posting the top qualifying
time in the field.
Also trained by Ron Moosman, RNL Need A Move showed even more speed in her first-ever stakes final. The filly completed the trip in :17.023, tallying a career-high 97 speed index.
Jockey Uriel Dominguez brought RNL Need A Move bursting out of the No. 3
gate to take the initial lead, and the filly retained the advantage from wire to wire.
It wasn’t a complete runaway, however; Fly N Bye came on strong late and nearly caught the Moosmans’ filly, but RNL Need A Move reached the wire first by a neck.
The Moosmans also own Needaexitnow, the dam of RNL Need A
Move. The 2001 mare was placed twice in 11 starts on the track, and has pro- duced only two offspring so far—RNL Need A Move and a yearling of 2012. Needaexitnow is a sister to stakes winner Lanester and stakes-placed Need A Lanie Night, as well as a half-sister to graded stakes finalist and multiple winner Make A Move Tonight. This is the
maternal family of stakes winners JA Dallas Run, JA Fearless, Baby Its Tonight, Dragon Night, and others.
Fly N Bye beat Austins Flyer by a neck
to secure second place. David Johnson owns Fly N Bye (Fly With Honor-BCR Dashing Sue), who was prepped by Chris Mitchell and ridden by Oscar Cervantes. Austins Flyer (Eyesastrawfly-Heavens An Effort), the pre- race favorite, is owned by William Fox. The Jim Fox trainee had Jose Guzman aboard.
The remaining order of finish was Hawkeyes Warrior (Justaheartofawarrior-Bugys Boo), Goodtime Foxy Freckl (Dale Badon-Foxys Dealin), Antonios Best (Sir Antonio-Monicas Best), BW Pies Dashair (Dashair-Pies Shadow), Snow Kool (Snowbound TB-Little Kool Barbie) and Streaken Hot Kelly (Darkelly-Streak N Wink). My Fair Dashair was scratched.

 Bitterroot Derby
ALITTLEBITOFIVORY/
MISS PERRY BUG
by Tracy Gantz
Nearly every runner in the May 26 Bitterroot Derby at Les Bois Park came from a homebred operation, which gave the owners an even bigger
interest in the race’s outcome. Ultimately, it came down to two homebreds from Idaho and Colorado, as Idaho-bred Miss Perry Bug dead-heated with Colorado-bred Alittlebitofivory for the victory.
CM Got Overserved, another homebred, this one from Oregon, went off the 9-5 favor- ite. The gelding brought a five-race winning streak into the Derby, but he got pinched back and never could get into the race, finishing eighth. Instead, fastest-qualifer Alittlebitofivory rushed to the front, with Miss Perry Bug challenging from the outside. They hit the wire together, and the photo could not separate them as they trav- eled the 400 yards in :20.180.
Dirk Crane rode Alittlebitofivory in the final for trainer Bret Vickery.
Larry Stewart owns and bred the gelding. Alittlebitofivory was winning his first stakes, having captured two of nine starts prior to the Bitterroot Derby. He is the first winner in two starters for his dam, the unplaced Proudest Effort mare Megs Little Sister.
Miss Perry Bug was also winning her first stakes. Jess Chance piloted her to her third in her trial and the final victory. Prior to that she had won three of her four races. Mike Scudder trains
Miss Perry Bug for owner-breeders Glen and Jill Jamison. They bred the filly from the winning Hempens Moon Bug mare Bugs Last Toll. From four starters, Bugs Last Toll has two winners.
SW Count On Me (Count Corona-Raise A Rhoda) finished third with Nikeela Black in the irons. Three times stakes-placed last year, includ- ing a second in last year’s Bitterroot Futurity-G3, SW Count On Me races for the Wright Brothers Ranches LLC and is trained by Monte Arossa.
Completing the field were Out Of The Dust (Maknmoves-Eyes Rockin On), Veyron (Ivory James-Leading Diva), Its Your First Move (Maknmoves-A Dash Of Steffi), Pedal To The Medal (Mighty Invictus-That Be Me), CM Got Overserved (Corona For Me-Mi Fames A Dandy), Eye Yin Fury (Eye Yin You-Shes Furious), and Chitchattin Memories (Leaving Memories-Chitchatty).
