Mr Piloto wins the 2010 All American Futurity (440yds)
Those who seek the All American Dream come from all backgrounds. They cover all economic levels and lifestyles. The horses involved in seeking an All American Futurity win are no different than the humans they are trying to win for, as they each have a unique background that forms their history. Mr Piloto has a unique pedigree history as he comes from the female family that produced Galobar, winner of the first All American Futurity in 1959. It is his female family that enhances his credentials to seek the All American Dream.
Mr Piloto was originally registered as Maverick Perry, a son of Mr Jess Perry out
of Ms Pilot Point by Splash Bac. The fourth dam in his tail female line is Romabar, a full sister to Galobar. He was bred by Ill Take A Twirl LLC of Hempstead, Texas. He was sold in September 2009 to Ramiro Villarreal of San Antonio, Texas, for $81,000 and he got a name change. Then in January, Mr Piloto was transferred to Garcia Bloodstock & Racing
of Mission, Texas. He started his race career with Garcia Bloodstock & Racing for his first three starts and then he was transferred to
Tremor Enterprises LLC, a company owned by Jose Trevino.
The first start for Mr Piloto was his trial for the Ruidoso Futurity in which he finished last, getting a 65 speed index and race notes indicating that he “lost path.” His next start came in his Rainbow Futurity trial with a fourth-place finish and an 85 speed index. He was improving. His trainer up to this point was Jim Boss.
When the All American Futurity trials took place, it was JLS Mr Bigtime with the fastest qualifying time of :21.220. That
was followed by Cuz Iba Okey in :21.405, Dominyun in :21.408, Make Me Fly in :21.415, Miss Racy Jess with :21.433, Episode Of Fire in :21.442, Prospect To The Top in :21.462, DM Streakn Thru Fire in :21.467, and JD Baccarat with :21.467.
Mr Piloto filled the field for the race as the 10th fastest qualifier. He won his trial with a time of :21.477. He was still racing for the Garcia Bloodstock & Racing, but was now trained by Felipe Quintero. He was transferred to Tremor Enterprises and Jose Trevino for the finals.
When the gates opened for the finals, it was Prospect To The Top with the early call followed by JLS Mr Bigtime. As they continued down the track, it looked like it was going to be between JLS Mr Big Time and Dominyun to settle the outcome of the race. But then the call went out that Mr Piloto, who had veered wide from the 9-post, was coming on. When they reached the finish line, it was a three- way photo finish. The results showed Mr Piloto by a nose over JLS Mr Bigtime with Dominyun third by nose to get the closest finish since 1972 when Possumjet won by a nose over Miss Ooo Wee and she was a nose in front of Callmemyoh.
Mr Piloto finished in a time of :21.553 for the 440-yard race, with JLS Mr Bigtime getting a time of :21.556 and Dominyun finishing in :21.556. The rest of the field followed, with Make Me Fly fourth; DM Streakn Thru Fire fifth; Cuz Iba Okey sixth; Prospect To The
Top finished seventh, but was disqualified to ninth for interference. This put Miss Racy Jess in seventh and JD Baccarat eighth as the two horses he interfered with. This was Mr Piloto’s last start. He left the track with two wins in four starts and earnings of $1,002,240.
