The $1,077,688 All American Derby-G1, Quarter Horse rac-
ing’s richest race for three year olds, will be run on Sept. 6 at Ruidoso Downs. On Aug. 23, nine trials narrowed down the field to 10 finalists, who were met with a beautiful day for racing with temperatures in the 80’s and light winds that did not interfere with the competitors.
A shake was held between Kleptomaniac and Perrys Double Down to determine the final qualifier, as each finished their heat in :21.549. The shake was won by Kleptomaniac.
Sire Apollitical Jess qualified three horses to the finals. There are two homebreds on the qualifying ladder – Cers Final Try, who was bred by Charles E. Robinson and owned by Christina Robinson, wife of
the late Charles E. Robinson and Elm Creek Khrome, who is bred and owned by Kent Creel. Jockey Ricky Ramirez qualified three. Trainers Monty Arrossa, and Charles Duke Shults each qualified two.
