Big DaDDy Cartel
(Corona Cartel-Miss Racy Eyes) Stands at MJ Farms in New Mexico 2015 Fee: $2,500
This 2009 gray stallion raced onlyasa2year old. He won his trial heats for the All American Futurity-G1 and the Rainbow
Futurity-G1. He was a finalist in the All American and finished 4th in the Rainbow. All told, he captured 3 of 5 starts, bankrolling $121,800.
A half-brother to stakes winner Racy La Jolla, Big Daddy Cartel hails from a running female family. His dam, Miss Racy Eyes, was a graded stakes winner and is a half-sister to Champion 3-Year-Old Filly of 1994 Miss Racy Jess.
“The ones we have and the ones we’ve seen, I really like them,” said MJ Farms’ Mac Murray of Big Daddy Cartel’s offspring. “They are real correct. They have nice, big shoulders and big hips. I’m really excited about them. Everybody is pretty excited about his yearlings. Of course, the real test is when they go to the racetrack, but I really like what I’ve seen so far. I like the way they are working in the round pens and the way they are coming together.
“The first year, we bred a few over 80 mares
to him,” Murray continued. “The last two years we’ve bred over 100 mares to him each year. I think one of the real compliments to him is that many of the people who bred to him that first year liked their babies enough that about 80 percent of them came back and bred that second year.”

Cold Granite Stone is out of graded stakes placed winner Hempen Chics Alibi, who is a half- sister to multiple stakes winners including 400- yard New Track Record setter Chics Delight. His second dam is multiple graded stakes winner Easy Hempen Chic. Actually, Cold Granite Stone’s
1st through 4th dams are all stakes runners and stakes producers. This is also the female family that produced Champion Lucks Gay Chic.

With the yearling sales season commencing this month, it’s an ideal time to take a closer look at young stallions represented this year by first- crop yearlings. Buyers interested in taking a gam- ble on yearlings by first-crop sires will have plenty
of opportunities over the next few months to do just that. Judging by the racetrack accomplish- ments and strong books of mares that have been bred to many of the promising young stallions with their first yearlings on offer, expectations are
rightfully high ahead of the summer sales. Following are brief profiles of 15 stallions
