The pedigree of the American Quarter Horse is chock full of Thoroughbred blood.
Prior to this year, the last winner of Thoroughbred Racing’s Triple Crown - the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and the Belmont Stakes
- was Affirmed in 1978. There have only been 12 winners of this prestigious event since its inception in 1875: Sir Barton (1919), Gallant Fox (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977), Affirmed (1978), and now American Pharoah (2015).
We have waited 37 years to see this incredible feat repeated in American Pharoah, and
we hope you enjoy this special tribute to the winner of the 2015 Triple Crown by renowned SPEEDHORSE pedigree writer Larry Thornton.
