 Charles Edward, “C.E.,” Trimble II
March 16, 1929 - June 18, 2020
Charles Edward, “C.E.,” Trimble II, 91,
of Bovina, Texas, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020, in Farwell, Texas. C.E. was born March 16, 1929, in Mobeetie, Texas to Eula (Fultz) and William (Bill) Trimble. He gradu- ated from Mobeetie High School in 1947 and served as a Staff Sargent and aircraft mainte- nance technician in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954. He married Esther Rosie May Wutzke on July 4, 1954, in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. After Esther’s passing, he married Joy Gay, July 15, 1980.
His daughter Cathie had the following to say about her father:
My Dad was a fun-loving guy that had a big personality. He was a farmer and rancher in Bovina, Texas, for over 50 years. He was also active in the New Mexico Thorough- bred horse racing scene for over six decades. He bred, raised, and raced these horses at almost every track in New Mexico, includ- ing LaMesa Park in Raton and the Downs at Santa Fe. During these many years, he had luck with trainers such as Bill Wallace in the 1960’s, Bob and Jon Arnett, Dwain Grissom, and, most recently, Weston Martin.
In 1992 C.E. was awarded New Mexico Horseman of the year. He ran numerous stakes such as Crazy Frills, Parmer County Kid, Makum Trimble, Farmer Brown, and Y Not Sizzle. More recent wins include She Moves, winner of the 2011 La Coneja Stakes at Sunland Park and Dats Dee, winner of the 2013 John Augustine at the Downs at Albuquerque.
C.E. was a humble man whose character and qualities were admired by many. He was a true horseman that could ride with the
best of them and whose passion and love
for horse racing was undeniable. While his family and friends will greatly miss him, we are comforted knowing he is with Jesus in his heavenly home.
