Remington Park Declares Meet Leaders
Remington Park on June 1 ended their meet that began March 8. The track declared their meet leaders: Horse of the Meet, Champion Older Male and Champion Oklahoma-Bred Political Attraction (Apollitical Jess-Gunsight Peak, Separatist); Champion 2 Year Old Uptowne Babe (Mr Jess Perry-Ms Southern Dynasty, FDD Dynasty), Champion 3 Year Old Apollitical Pence (Apollitical Jess-Send City, Tres Seis); Champion Older Female and Champion Distance Runner Ms Esther (Afrashad TB-Tres Down The Cash, Tres Seis); Champion Claimer Apollitical Valor (Apollitical Jess-BP Painted Lady, PYC Paint Your Wagon); Champion Paint DTL Samureye (Royal Quick Flash-Eysa Savvy Queen, Mr Eye Opener QH); and Champion Appaloosa D Railed (Freighttrain B QH-Jess Streakin, Feature Mr Jess QH).
California Passes Bill Allowing Horse Racing To Be Suspended
California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill on June 26 that gives the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) authority to suspend racing meet licenses to protect the safety of horses and jockeys if the California Horse Racing Board sees an issue. Bill SB 469 allows the CHRB to take immediate action if they feel something improper is occurring.
Remington Park Distributes Record Purses
Remington Park has shown an increased pari-mutuel handle for a third consecutive Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa season. The track boasted its richest sprint season ever in 2019 with total horsemen’s purses reaching nearly $16 million and an average daily distri- bution of $310,703. The average field size was 9.39 per race, with 5,233 starters over 557 races.
2019 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Gala
The 2019 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Gala will take place at Retama Park on Sept. 6. The 2019 inductees are individuals John Adger, Keith & Marilyn Asmussen, Johnny Cox, Ted Keefer, Bob and Janice McNair, and horses Alysheba and Streakin Six. Ruidoso Downs Dedicates Prayer Garden
Ruidoso Downs dedicated their
new God’s Prayer Garden, with a public dedication service held July 4 and led by Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller of the
San Antonio, Texas diocese. “This is something that we hope will be special to the community,” said Ruidoso Downs Race Track and Casino co-owner Stan Sigman. “When you visit this prayer garden, it’s high enough on the property that you can over- look the valleys on all sides and it is a very spiritual setting. You can feel God’s presence here and I believe that people will have a sense of peace when they take the time to stop and see it.”
June Stakes Events In Brazil
The Jockey Club de Sorocaba in Sao Paulo, Brazil, held several big stakes events in June. On June 1, the 350-yard Grande Premio Sorocaba Futurity finals were held with Tyrion Kisser (Gold Medal Jess-The Goodbye Kisser) taking the victory for
owner Antonio Bruno Da Costa, trainer M. Artemam, and jockey A. Arteman. In second was Truco Six (Separatist-Miss Six Wrangler) and third went to Setubal Lake MRL (Granite Lake-Corona Facil). On June 15, the 440-yard Grande Premio Megarace finals were held. Granite Toll Lake (Granite Lake- Summer Six) was the winner for owners Ana Dantas Ranch & H. Sta Maria, trainer L. Levir and jockey D. Macedo. Second went to Baby Fantastic (Fantastic Corona Jr-Hustled) and Terremoto Da Shalako (Granite Lake- Karisma Bac) took third.
Yearling Learning The Ropes
Tale Action, a yearling filly by
Wagon Tales and out of the Thoroughbred mare Lovely Action, has been learning the ropes at Indiana Grand Racecourse in the barn of owner/trainer Justin Keiser. “She is such a sweet and extremely smart horse whom we’ve really enjoyed working with,” said co-owner Daryn Williams, who sent us this photo.
