BUY BUY
by Tracy Gantz
A$10,000 claim paid off with a stakes victory in less than a month when Buy Buy captured the July 28 California Breeders Freshman Fillies Stakes at Los Alamitos. Owner Kolleen Ledgerwood and trainer Roberto Dominguez haltered Buy Buy, and the 2-year-old filly earned $13,750 in her next start.
Buy Buy bounced out of the gate in front, but Quieros Dynasty challenged her immediately. Eddie Garcia, Los Alamitos’ leading Quarter Horse jockey, urged Buy Buy forward, and she responded by draw- ing off in the last part of the 350 yards and winning by three-quarters of a length in :17.708.
Racing for her breeder, Dr. Ed Allred, Buy Buy broke her maiden in her third start. She followed that with a 1 1/2-length victory in the race in which Ledgerwood and Dominguez claimed her.
Allred bred Buy Buy in California out of his homebred winner Aquisitive. The mare has produced two winners in three starters, including two-time stakes winner Buying Snow. The second dam,
A Classic Diamond, is a half-sister to Rainbow Derby-G1 winner Kims First Dash and Ruidoso Derby-G1 winner First To Score.
Quieros Dynasty (FDD Dynasty-Quiero Mas) led a six-horse charge to the wire for second, grabbing the place by a nose under jockey Oscar Peinado. Jose Flores trains the filly for Mariano Aguirre and Elba Romo.
Janet McKinnerney’s homebred Chick On First (First Down Dash-Buena Chick) took third. Eduardo Nicasio piloted the filly for trainer Juan Aleman.
Completing the field were A Walking Secret (Walk Thru Fire-Corona Fria), Our Secret Queen (No Secrets Here-Its Good To Be Queen), Miss Behaving (Stel Corona-Special Mongoose Bug), Stella La Rosa (Separatist-Caper Cutting), Wears The Pants (Stel Corona-Controlling), and Walk With Militia (Walk Thru Fire-Militia). Jewel First Cat SA was scratched.

KooL MILLIoN
by Tracy Gantz
Kool Million descends from a family of cham- pions, and he is adding to the family fame. In six starts, the 3-year-old gelding has never finished
worse than second. He captured his second stakes when winning the July 28 Jens L. List Jr. Memorial California Breeders Stakes.
Bettors sent Kool Million off as the 3-10 favorite in the List. After breaking inward under regular jockey Cruz Mendez, Kool Million grabbed the lead. Mendez rode the gelding confidently, and they won by 1 1/4 lengths in :19.890 for the 400 yards.
“He was a little agitated in the starting gate tonight,” said Jose Flores, who trains Kool Million for owner-breeder Dr. Ed Allred. “We’ll have to work with him to helping be a calmer in there. He never runs a super fast time, but he is always consistent. He always gets the job done.”
Kool Million started only once, last December, as a two-year-old and won. Earlier this year, he won the Dillingham Handicap and finished second in the Vandy’s Flash Handicap.
Allred bred Kool Million from winner Kool As Ever. The mare has two winners from two starters and is out of two-time Champion and millionaire Corona Kool. Third dam, 2001 Broodmare of the Year Sizzling Lil, produced two-time Champion and Broodmare of the Year Corona Chick.
One Famous Ferragamo (First Down Dash-One Famous Lady), owned by the Deleyco Race Team Corporation, finished second under Eduardo Nicasio. Paul Jones trains the allowance-winning gelding.
Jones also trains third-place Tac Of The Town (Tac It Like A Man-Shes A Strawfly), bred and owned by the Double Bar S. Ranch LLC. Ramon Sanchez rode the gelding.
Completing the field were Bar Closer (TR Dasher- Singles Scene), Ivlis (Snowbound-TB-Going Single), and Mister Michael (Snowbound-TB-Dash For Kate).

MAMA MIA BeLLA
by Tracy Gantz
When Mama Mia Bella scored in the July 28 California Breeders Freshman Stakes at Los Alamitos, she continued the stakes-winning prowess of her bottom line. Both the filly’s dam and second dam are also stakes winners.
Mama Mia Bella cut it close for her first stakes victory. Running between Got No Secrets on the rail and Bullet In The Gun to her outside, Mama Mia Bella edged those two right at the wire of the 350- yard Freshman. Under jockey Rodrigo Aceves, she grabbed the victory by a nose in :17.737.
Rosario Jimenez owns Mama Mia Bella, who fin- ished third once and fourth twice in her first three starts. Moved to the barn of trainer Jose Moreno, the filly broke her maiden in her first start for her new conditioner before capturing the Freshman.
A Regal Choice Inc. bred Mama Mia Bella by crossing 1997 AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity-G3 winner Fed X Dash with the stallion Royaltys Choice. The sire is a full brother to Los Alamitos Million Futurity-G1 winner A Regal Choice. Fed X Dash has produced two winners from two starters. The second dam, Quad Drop, won the 1991 Southwestern Derby and is a full sister to stakes winner Wild Drop.
Bullet In The Gun (Stel Corona-Summertime Dash) ran second for jockey Eduardo Nicasio. Paul Jones trains the gelding, and is the co-owner and co- breeder with J. Azevedo and the Boyles Family Trust.
Got No Secrets (No Secrets Here-Moon Arisen) finished another nose back in third, with Cruz Mendez aboard. Jose Flores trains the gelding for LJM Ranch Inc.
Completing the field were Kool Millions (Walk Thru Fire-Kool Kue Chick), Knows Best (Snowbound-TB-Fly Ta Cartel), High School Secrets (No Secrets Here-Summertime High), Stel My Corona (Stel Corona-Ocean Express), and Headlining (Spanish Boot-Headliner-TB).
