Race For Hope Bonus Chall. S.
HuCKLEBERRY MOJITO
Tby Tracy Gantz
rainer Edward Hardy selected a filly out of the 2010
Heritage Place yearling sale for $27,000 who has developed into a win machine. Huckleberry Mojito is on a four-race winning streak that included the Aug. 4 Race For Hope Bonus Challenge Stakes at Canterbury Park.
Several distaffers beat Huckleberry Mojito
out of the gate, but that was the only point where anyone else had a chance. Ridden by Nik Goodwin, Huckleberry Mojito flashed to the front and scored by 1 3/4 lengths in :20.173 for the 400 yards.
Owned by LMR 2011, Huckleberry Mojito won
in her debut and placed in three other races at 2. Since May she has been perfect, reeling off an allowance victory at Remington Park, her trial and final for the Canterbury Derby, and the Race For Hope. In the Canterbury Derby, she broke the 400-yard track record.
Gary and Patty Petersen bred Huckleberry Mojito out of multiple stakes winner Eye Opening Special, who set two track records at Canterbury. All six of the mare’s starters have won, including stakes- placed Captains Road, Cour D Alene, and Miss Rosenberger. The second dam, graded stakes-placed Special Words, produced All American Congress Derby-G3 winner Callies Corona.
Multiple stakes winner Believers Gathering (Agouti-None As Easy) ran second for owners Pat and Walt Fletcher, trainer Charlton Hunt, and jockey Thomas Wellington.
Hardy also trains Albert Hogoboom and Fred Puttoff’s Bailey Nagurski (Oak Tree Special-Ms Diamond Streaker), who finished third under Tanner Riggs.
Completing the field were Streakin Rare (Fredricksburg-Regally Rare), Checkin Her Out (Check Him Out-Royal Wild Time), Chicks Brief Case (Looking For Chicks-Briefcase Cash), Rumba Casino (Streakin La Jolla-Go Street Music), Paint Or More PYC Paint Your Wagon-Tell Her More), and TRS A Classy Dash (Hot Shot Dash-Pure Ol Class).
