Spots and Dots P&A Stakes
DSP ANNIES FLASH
by Tracy Gantz
Though DSP Annies Flash’s first two victories came at 350 and 250 yards, the 6-year-old gelding loves races around the hook. Four times he has com- peted at 870 yards, with two thirds, a victory, and then his first stakes win, in the July 28 Spots and Dots Paint and Appaloosa Stakes at Fair Meadows.
Double registered as a Quarter Horse and a Paint, DSP Annies Flash was competing as a Paint in the Spots and Dots. Under jockey James Flores, DSP Annies Flash broke on top. As Little Possum Jet and favored Moon Bully came up on the inside, DSP Annies Flash sat in third around the turn, challeng- ing them at the top of the stretch. He and Moon Bully raced to the wire, with DSP Annies Flash prevailing by a nose in :46.111.
Rick Maxville trains DSP Annies Flash for Darrel and Billie Farrow. Breeders Doug and Susie Peacock campaigned the gelding through 2009, and he began racing for the Farrows in 2010.
DSP Annies Flash is the only winner from two starters for the Quarter Horse mare Streakin Peacock. The mare has produced one other double-registered horse, two Quarter Horses, and two Paints.
Leslie Padilla trains multiple stakes winner Moon Bully-ApHC (Man With The Power-TB Fancy Moon) for owners Rebecca Bailey and Jeff Adams. Berkley Packer rode the 8-year-old gelding.
Little Possum Jet-APHA (Little Jungle Jet- Streakin Possum) finished third under Randy Wilson. Ray Enlow bred, owns, and trains the mare.
Completing the field were Jacks Lil Bro-APHA
(Little Jungle Jet-Rainbows Dash), A Day Before-ApHC (Dispensing Speed-It’s Cash’s Perks), Heather Royal-APHA (SF Royal Quick Flash-Heather Lane), Jungle Jack-APHA (Little Jungle Jet-Rainbows Dash), Garys Rainbow-ApHC (Separate Rainbow-Lightning Kat), Fast Gold-APHA (Country Quick Dash-Bet On Gold), and Dos Of Joe Watson-APHA (Dos Poruno-Corona Perfect).
Colors of the Alamo P&A Fut.
A FLAMING ExPRESS
by Tracy Gantz
AFlaming Express caught on to winning very early. Only a neck has kept her from being per- fect in three lifetime starts, which include a victory in her very first stakes attempt, the Aug. 4 Colors of the Alamo Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Retama Park.
Ten Paints lined up for the Colors of the Alamo. Eliazar Vera, who has piloted A Flaming Express in each of her races, got the filly away well from post four, as Dos Alejandro broke on top. Dashin For Jewels took over the lead in the 350-yard race, but A Flaming Express came on late, closing to win by a neck over another closer, favored Winners Winner, in :18.214.
Noe Rios trains A Flaming Express for Zackery Rios. Christy Gerow bred the filly in Texas and raced her for one start, a second in a June 29 maiden event at Retama. A Flaming Express first competed in Zackery Rios’s colors on July 22 at the Gillespie Fairgrounds, when she won by a nose.
A Flaming Express is the first foal out of the placed Paint mare My Flaming Image.
Victor Villarreal owns and bred Winners Winner-APHA (Awesome Chrome-Intrinsic Winner), who is trained by Jose Espinosa. Cipriano Vidana has ridden the colt in all three of his starts, which include a maiden victory at Sam Houston.
Jerry Chapman’s homebred Fancy Quick Dash- APHA (Country Quick Dash-Treasured Fancy) finished third under Eddi Martinez. Vicki McIlvain trains the gelding.
Completing the field were Dos Alejandro-APHA (Dos Poruno-EJ Martha Feature), Dashin For Jewels- APHA (Dash Last Episode-Judys Jewel), Mona Dash-APHA (Monarch Pass-Eastersundaymist), Uno Poruno-APHA (Dos Poruno-The Queens Ransom), Jackpot Gol-APHA (Judys Lineage-Treasured Gol), Carlitos Chrome-APHA (Awesome Chrome-Rippin Ruffian), and Lajollas Dolce Date-APHA (Dolce La Jolla-Bedadate).
Harvest Cup P&A Maturity
DOS JAKES
by Tracy Gantz
Being double registered, Dos Jakes has competed as both a Quarter Horse and a Paint. The 4-year- old stallion has raced most often as a Paint and
has found his best success there. He most recently became a stakes winner in the July 28 Harvest Cup Paint and Appaloosa Maturity at Arapahoe Park.
When the gate opened, Dosofme from post eight broke to the extreme outside, away from Dos Jakes. Gone Regal took the early lead on the rail, but Dos Jakes under jockey Benito Baca collared her and pulled away to win easily by 1 3/4 lengths in :19.755 for the 400 yards.
The Champion 3-year-old Paint Colt of 2011, Dos Jakes finished second in the 2010 Western States Futurity-G2 at Arapahoe and 2011 Olympia Joe Handicap-G1 at Lone Star Park. He is currently trained by Patrick Sanchez.
Milford Roberts Jr. owns Dos Jakes and bred him in Arkansas by crossing the Quarter Horse mare Bug Lover with the double-registered stallion Dos Poruno, a champion Paint. Bug Lover won the 2006 Pelican Stakes-RG3. In addition to Dos Jakes, she has produced one other starter and winner, the Quarter Horse Stolin Blush, by Stoli.
Dosofme-APHA (Dos Poruno-Bullamia) finished second with Flavio Lozano in the irons. Jose Barron trains the 3-year-old filly for Calvin Ghost Bear.
Ruben Guardiola owns and trains third-place Gone Regal-APHA (A Regal Choice-By Gone). Alejandro Luna piloted the 4-year-old filly, the two having won a $6,250 claiming race at Arapahoe on June 16. Gone Regal also is twice stakes placed.
Completing the field were Flying T Mrappaloosa- ApHC (With Honors-Hoopers Camee), Deflash- APHA (Decash-Indian Wine), Special Sign-APHA (Special Leader-Signs Of Summer), Cash An Flash- ApHC (Chicks Dig It-Cash In Any Form), and A Noisy Rio-APHA (Rio Strawfly-Noisy Spirit).
