Magnolia Stakes
IM MIGHTY FAST
by Dillon Hamilton
Favorite Im Mighty Fast became a multiple stakes winner with his victory in the $25,000 Magnolia Stakes for accredited Louisiana-bred three-year-olds
and up at Louisiana Downs on Feb. 4.
The 3-year-old bay gelding won his first stakes
race four months ago in the Races And Aces Stakes at Evangeline Downs, and he continues his solid form in 2017. Im Mighty Fast broke from the 7-hole in third place under jockey Jose Rodriquez for the Magnolia Stakes. The pair went 3-wide in the turn and then caught the leaders and strode past with ease, driving clear from the field in the stretch. Im Mighty Fast made it a day to remember, recording his fastest ever time at 870-yards and claiming his second stakes victory. The pair finished with a time of :45.690, earning a speed index of 98.

Denim N Diamonds Handicap
LITTLE TALKS
by John Moorehouse
Little Talks was the big talk heading into the $20,000 Denim And Diamonds Handicap, in which the four-year-old filly was a huge 2-5 favorite
at post time. All that chatter proved justified, as she won by daylight in the Feb. 18 event at Los Alamitos.
Home-bred by Dr. Steve Burns DVM, Little Talks collected her third career stakes win, all
of which have come at Los Alamitos, including
the 2015 running of the Golden State Million Futurity-G1. She also won last year’s PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby-G3. She now holds eight wins in 15 lifetime starts, and the $11,000 payday from the Denim N Diamonds Handicap pushed her total earnings to $563,896.
Coming off a third-place effort in the Charger Bar Handicap-G1 that was held Jan. 8 at Los Alamitos, Little Talks emerged from a very fractious start that included most of the six-horse field. The filly was second by a neck at the first call, then moved into the lead by a neck as she entered the stretch and burst clear of the competition, sporting a 1 1/4-length margin as she reached the wire. Michael Casselman trains Little Talks, who finished the race in :17.602, posting a 93 speed index. Cesar DeAlba drew the riding assignment.
Bemused (Separatist-Just Think) placed a solid second for owner Edward C. Allred and trainer James Glenn, Jr. Eulices Gomez did the riding. Bemused entered this race after posting the fastest 300-yard time recorded at Los Alamitos in more than five years. Burns also owns the third-place fin- isher, One Sweet Winner (One Sweet Jess-We Have A Winner), who is also trained by Casselman and had Ruben Lozano up. They were followed by Lady Perry On Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Jess Sass Me) and Tough Broad (TR Dasher-Feminista). Nymph was declared a non-starter for interference after bumping the assis- tant starter, which led to her throwing her rider.
