Each December, the Grade 1 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos Race Course has proven to be a standard
bearer for championship honors in Quarter Horse racing. When we look back on the history of this race, we find that Mr Jet Moore was the winner of the first Champions of Champions in 1972. He was named World Champion for that year, starting a trend that has seen a substantial number of horses win the race and then take home championship honors with the Champion of Champions race being their crowning achievement.
The 2018 version of the Grade 1 race shows the caliber of horses it is known to bring together, giving it the prestige it has earned over the years. The horses at the starting gate had total earnings of $7,136,418 and included four that had made 12 starts in this race over the last few years. Included were former winners Heza Dasha Fire with 4 starts, Zoomin For Spuds with 3 three starts, He Looks Hot with 3 starts and BH Lisas Boy with 2 starts. Zoomin For Spuds, He Looks Hot and BH Lisas Boy, Jess Ravin, Jesstacartel and Tarzanito all qualified
