The 2018 Champion of Champions
win also elevated Bodacious Eagle to championship status. He was named 2018 World Champion, 2018 Champion Aged Horse and 2018 Champion Aged Gelding. He is owned by Johnny Trotter, who received honors as the 2018 Champion Owner. Trotter is also the owner of One Sweet Racy, who was named 2018 Champion Aged Mare.
The training and jockey duties for the Championship run for Bodacious Eagle was a team effort, with Michael Joiner as the trainer for his first three starts. Justin Joiner took over in the fourth start and finished the year. G. R. Carter Jr. piloted the gelding in his first two starts with Cody Jensen taking over in the third start of the year and finishing the season. Cody Jensen was named the 2018 Champion Jockey.
Johnny Trotter purchased Bodacious Eagle while an embryo in his recipient mare at the 2012 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale for $8,000. Trotter professed at the naming of the champions at Heritage Place on Jan. 17 that he had gotten a bargain, but that he had bought quite a few embryos
that hadn’t done so good for him. As we delve deeper into the pedigree history of Bodacious Eagle, you will see that the new World Champion was a real bargain based on pedigree alone.
Bodacious Eagle was bred by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC of North Las Vegas, Nevada. The La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC is a team comprised of Manuel, Linda and Javier Rodriguez. The home ranch is located in Hondo, New Mexico. Bodacious Eagle is by One Famous Eagle and out of Bodacious Dream by Corona Cartel. The dam of Bodacious Dream is Dashing Phoebe by Dash For Cash.
The story of how the La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC came to be the breeders of Bodacious Eagle has its beginning in
Mexico. Javier Rodriguez fills us in on how it started. “Before we came to the United States in 2007, we would match race in Mexico,” Javier said. “We had a few colts out of the Dashing Phoebe family and then we saw Bodacious Dream at the Ruidoso sale. I think we paid like $50,000 for her and we took her to Mexico. We raced her there and she did real good for us. Then, we brought her to the United States and she did good there as well as a three year old.”
Bodacious Dream made her first United States start in 2007, with seven starts that year including two wins and two seconds and earnings of $26,078. She was a finalist in the 2007 Sunland Park Winter Derby-G2 and in the Hobbs America Derby-G2. She earned her ROM and a 97 speed index.
Owners Jana and Johnny Trotter with trainers Justin and Michael Joiner after Bodacious Eagle won the Z Wayne Griffin Directors Trial at Los Alamitos.
