Though bred in Texas, Zoomin Racer has done his finest racing in New Mexico. He put together a season there in 2018 that earned him the title of 2018 Distance Champion.
Jerry Windham, who has bred several Champions, bred Zoomin Racer from his homebred graded stakes winner Racing Winner. Michael Amburn purchased Zoomin Racer
for $40,000 at the 2014 Texas Quarter Horse Association Yearling Sale and raced him through the early part of his career.
Jesus Carrete now owns Zoomin Racer,
and he trained his gelding when Zoomin Racer competed in New Mexico. Sticking to 870-yard races throughout the year, Zoomin Racer proved particularly adept during the summer.
He began the season at Remington under the guidance of trainer Juventino Ruiz. Zoomin Racer made short work of optional claiming company, winning his first outing of the year by 1 3/4-lengths as the 3-5 favorite.
Sent away as the odds-on favorite again for the Remington Park Distance Championship-G2, Zoomin Racer was shuffled back early. Nevertheless, he responded to jockey Augustin Silva’s urging to close well for second.
Carrete then brought Zoomin Racer to Albuquerque for his two finest efforts of the season. The gelding has never been defeated at that track in four starts, having captured two allowance races there in 2017.
In his trial for the Zoetis Albuquerque Distance Challenge, now ridden by Jansen Melancon, Zoomin Racer sat off the pace. He had to come six wide on the turn, yet he won easily by 2-lengths.
Melancon rode him back for the final. Wide on the turn once again, Zoomin Racer stormed home by 3/4-length as the 3-5 favorite.
Zoomin Racer completed the season with three starts at Zia Park, winning once and finishing third once. His victory proved his toughest outing.
Mahoney N Tacklebery, just to Zoomin Racer’s inside, veered out early, bumping Zoomin Racer and compromising several of the eight runners. Zoomin Racer never gave up, however, getting to within a neck of Mahoney N Tacklebery at the wire. The stewards disqualified Mahoney N Tacklebery, moving Zoomin Racer into first.
Zoomin Racer wins the Zoetis Downs At Albuquerque Distance Challenge-G3.
