JUST ANOTHER NATURAL
by Danny Camp
Entering the finals as the second fastest qualifier after winning her July 14 trial, Just Another Natural took the win in the $435,680
TQHA Sale Futurity-RG3 at Retama Park on July 29.
The filly broke even from the 4-post and led by a head at the first call. Just Another Natural continued to increase her lead throughout the 350 yards to cross the wire first by a 1-length margin. The filly and
rider Francisco Calderon stopped the clock at :17.614, earning a career best 103 speed index.
The filly earned the first place check worth $193,878 and increased her cumulative earn- ings to $213,078. She now boasts a race record of 3(1)-2(1)-0 from five starts with a 2nd in the Sam Houston Juvenile.
Her connections include owner T. C. Flack and trainer Leon Bard. Just Another Natural was homebred in Texas out of 3-time winner La Natural Rona. She has produced 100% money earners from four starters, including TC Paint N Dreams, who finished third in the 2015 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity-RG3 at Retama Park. Just Another Natural is the first stakes winner and top earner in the brood.
“This is a dream deal,” said trainer Leon Bard. “This horse is a dream to train and T. C. Flack is a dream to train for. T. C. let’s me
run the show. Whatever I say is what we do and where we go. T. C. doesn’t have a big bunch of horses, but it’s a family deal. They pet on these horses and mess with them all the time.
“Just Another Natural cost $9,000 to repurchase back from the 2016 TQHA Yearling Sale, and now she’s made the whole family worth a bunch more.” Leon added.
“This is a tiny filly, but shes as tough as nails and can leave the gate as fast as any horse. She should be undefeated, but we got bumped around in a couple of races. She won both her schooling races when we were getting started. "She started to get a little bit nervous in the gate so we put her in a rig.” the triner continued. “Once she figured out that she was tied in there, she settled down and now shes all business.
“This filly is very sound. The future looks really bright and at this point, we are not
real sure which way we are going with her.
If she is doing good, we might consider the Evangeline Futurity.”
Fifth fastest qualifier Ebrima (Captain Courage- MCM Don’t Look Back) ran a steady and even race and was clearly second best on this day. Her connections include owner Dimas A. Sanchez and trainer Antonio Delgado, Sr. Damian Martinez was in the irons. The bay filly was com- ing off three consecutive wins.
Sixth fastest qualifier Shakem Bye Perry (First
Prize Perry-Shakem Bye) was bumped hard
at the start, but overcame and rallied for a third place finish. His team includes owner Jose J. Espinoza and trainer Eusevio Huitron. Manuel Guitierrez had the riding assignment.
Runaway Heroine (Valiant Hero- Runaway Trs Seis) finished fourth and was followed by LJ Fastest Time (The Louisiana Cartel-Risen Eagle), Krash Course
(Krash Cartel-Rare Eye Opener), Globito (Pappasito-Trampstamp), Sugars First Love (Tempting Dash-Loves Brown Sugar), Thebunnygoeson (Jess Louisiana Blue- Andthebeatgoeson) and Illusively Going (FDD Going Grand-Lusi) was DQ’d from 6th to 10th for interference.
