Vinton Stakes-RG3
INTRIGUING JESS BLUE
by Tracy Gantz
Yadira Alvarado made a wise investment two years ago at the LQHBA Yearling Sale. She bought Intriguing Jess Blue for only $2,200, and he has gone on to earn $92,764 for her, as well as win two stakes, including the July 14 Vinton Stakes-RG3 at Delta Downs.
Longshot Sweets Dashin Bye took the lead right out of the gate from post two. Intriguing Jess Blue broke from post nine and ran fourth in the early part of the
400-yard event. Meanwhile,
several horses in the middle
of the pack became involved
in a bumping incident that
didn’t affect the inside and
outside horses. Intriguing
Jess Blue steadily made
up ground, grabbing the
victory at the last minute.
The gelding, ridden by John
Hamilton, Delta Downs’
leading jockey, won by a
head in :19.606.
Dale Beaty, who piloted last-place finisher Jessalittlecourage, claimed foul against Lil Jess Oak and Unquestionable. The stewards disallowed the claim against Unquestionable but disqualified fourth-place finisher Lil Jess Oak for interference and placed him 10th.
Willie Simien Jr. trains Intriguing Jess Blue for Alvarado. Last year, Intriguing Jess Blue won the LQHBA Invitational Stakes
at Evangeline Downs, and earlier this year he fin- ished second in the Billy Montgomery Louisiana Downs Stakes-RG3.
J.E. Jumonville Jr. bred Intriguing Jess Blue in Louisiana by crossing his stal- lion Jess Louisiana Blue with unraced Call Me Intriguing. The mare has produced five winners from six starters.
Tachas Got Game (Game Patriot-Tacha La Jolla) got up
for second for jockey Jose Vega. Dave Correll trains the gelding, who won two earlier races at Delta, for owner Pete Scarmardo.
Sweets Dashin Bye (Dashin Bye-Ms Sweet Goodby) held on for third under Jesse Chavis. An allowance winner at Delta in May, Sweets Dashin Bye is owned by Dale Keith and trained by Lanny Keith.
Coors Select (Oak Tree Special-Miss Coors Cartel) was elevated to fourth upon the disqualification of Lil Jess Oak, followed by Rapid Transit (Dashin Bye-WW Shuboom Shuboom), AJS Fast Dash (Heza Fast Dash- Snows Refrigerator), Unquestionable (Oak Tree Special-Real Or Imagined), Little Bit Trashy (Game Patriot-Della Loom), and Jessalittlecourage (Jess Louisiana Blue-Faith And Courage), with Lil Jess Oak (Oak Tree Special-Lil Jess Print) placed last.

Flashy Hemp Stakes
PANTHERINTHEFASTLANE
by Tracy Gantz
Pantherinthefastlane is a homebody. The Louisiana-bred filly has never strayed out- side her native state in 18 starts, but sticking
close to home has paid off. The four-year-old filly has now earned $163,973 for owner- breeders Wade and Kay Loup by adding her second stakes victory, in the July 14 Flashy Hemp Stakes at Delta Downs.
La Mos Chingono, coming off a victory in the Feb. 4 Party Girl Stakes
at Louisiana Downs, went
off as the 7-10 favorite in the
Flashy Hemp. Breaking from
post four, La Mos Chingono
got bumped from both
sides, ran rankly, and lost
all chance. Dash For Alexis
took the lead in the 400-yard
race, challenged by Bang
Bang Bang. Several surged
to the wire together, with Pantherinthefastlane and
jockey Alfonso Lujan closing
from the outside to win by a nose in :19.692. Pantherinthefastlane has steadily
improved every year she has raced. Unplaced in three starts at two in 2010, she won the 2011 Treme Derby and finished third in four other stakes. Vann Haywood trains her.
The Loups bred Pantherinthefastlane from Sheza Neon Rose, who won the 2000 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association
Futurity-RG3 and finished third in the 2001 Oklahoma Horsemen’s Association Derby-RG3. Sheza Neon Rose’s four winners in five starters include 2009 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes-G2 win- ner Photo Smart. Second dam Kiss Me Real Easy won the AQHA Stampede Stakes and has produced stakes winner and stakes producer Pure Oklahoma, a full sister to Sheza Neon Rose.
Diva Eleanor (Bigtime Favorite-Cool Eleanor) ran second under Eddie Cox. Frank Cavazos trains the filly for Joel Rod Pierce and Teddy Abrams Jr. Four-year-old Diva Eleanor won two races at Delta earlier this year.
Cavazos also trains third-place Dash For Alexis (Dashin Bye-Kdwantsafastone), who was ridden by Cody Jensen. Dash For Alexis began 2012 with a fourth in the Party Girl. Sergio Lozano owns the 4-year-old filly.
Completing the field were Streakin World (Worldly Man-Streak Forit), Bang Bang Bang (Lock To Load-Sweet Fly And Fly), Flamboyant Chick (Toast To Dash-Hempen Chick), Unrealistic (Heza Fast Dash-Real Or Imagined), Run Gamie Run (Game Patriot- Run Abby Run), Chics Special Dilly (Panther Mountain-My Shes A Dilly), and La Mos Chingono (Heza Fast Dash-Rita Regent).
