Moonin The Eagle’s latest victory was in the $150,000 Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational Championship at Hialeah Park on Feb. 28. While he is still a stud and fast, getting him to run straight has been problem. Enter Ricky Ramirez. The gray colt has won three in a row
since Ricky has taken over the reins.
They stepped away
from the 10-post in generic fashion and rallied to finish 3/4-length in front of the field, stopping the clock at :21.192 and earning a speed index of 105 for a New Track Record, beating the previous mark that he set back on Jan. 17 in the Hialeah Maturity. The $90,000 winner’s share boosts his total earnings to $399,363.
Moonin The Eagle owns a race record of six wins out of 13 tries. For owner Gregorio Garcia Garza and trainer Yoani Abreu.
“Moonin The Eagle is a great ride and I’m lucky and thankful for the opportunity to ride him.” said jockey Ricky Ramirez. “He’s still
a stud and sometimes doesn’t stand good in the gates, but it’s been all good since they put
a flipping halter on him. He broke in just a little bit and I had to switch sticks. Then he was getting out and I switched to the right, then down the stretch he was lugging in, so I had to switch again.”
“Ricky was very modest and thankful,” trainer Yoani Abreu added.
Moonin The Eagle was bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm and is out of 2-Time Champion Your First Moon. The mare has produced
11 starters. Moonin The Eagle is half-brother to 4-Time Champion Moonist, who is the dam’s top money earner.
Fly Thru The Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Babe On The Fly) pocketed second place money under Rodrigo Vallejo. His connections include owner King Camden Running Horses Inc. and trainer Judd Kearl. Ill Stop The World (FDD Dynasty-You Light Up My Life) finished third under Omar Reyes and is owned by David Ferrales and trained by Carolina Gaytan.
Eyesa Famous Eagle (One Famous Eagle- Eyesa Glass), TF Cajun Cartel (Corona Cartel-Dashadee), Habits Secret (No Secrets Here-Habitual Dreamer), Daytona B (First Down Dash-Dashing Pana), Parti Favor (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Funparty), Mo Zoomo (Shazoom-Stylish Form) & Dynasty Of Habits (FDD Dynasty-One More Habit) completed the order of finish.
