Good Reason Sa Posthumously Wins 2015 Freshman Sire title
by Sue Zuber
Good Reason Sa
When Good Reason SA secured the
title of No. 1 Freshman Sire of 2015, it was a bittersweet accolade. The 2007 stallion passed away on Sept. 27, 2012, after standing to a full book of mares in his first breeding season. His breeder and owner, Brazilian Gianni Franco Samaja, had passed away in April.
The true magnitude of that loss was reflected in the performance of Good Reason SA’s offspring in 2015. From 76 registered 2 year olds in 2015, he had 29 winners that recorded 46 wins, three stakes winners with three stakes wins, six stakes-placed horses and 37 ROM. Certainly the brightest star was AQHA Champion Two Year Old and Champion Two-Year-Old Colt
Jess Good Candy, who won the prestigious $3 Million All American Futurity-G1.
Jess Good Candy went undefeated in 2015, racking up four wins and $1,519,240 in earnings, $1.5 million of which came from Ruidoso Downs’ Labor Day classic. A maiden winner at Remington Park, Jess Good Candy shipped to New Mexico for the Ruidoso Futurity-G1 trials. His winning trial time just missed qualifying him for the finals. A minor splint resulted in trainer Clinton Crawford rehabbing the colt over the summer on an aquatread and pointing at the big prize – the All American Futurity-G1.
