Stealing Home, a bay daughter of Southwestern Heat owned by R.D. Hubbard and Paul Blanchard, led at every call en route to a 10-length victory in the May 14, 4 1/2-furlong C.O. “Ken” Kendrick Memorial Stakes (R) for New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds at SunRay Park.
Ridden by Elvin Gonzalez for trainer Casey Lambert, Stealing Home set fractions of :22.24 and :45.79 before reaching the wire in :52.01. The $24,000 winner’s share of the $38,400 purse pushed the filly’s earnings to $61,921 from three starts.
Stealing Home was bred by R.D. Hubbard, and he is one of 53 winners from 80 start-
ers sired by Southwestern Heat, a stakes- winning son of Gone West and 2001 Eclipse champion 3-year-old filly Xtra Heat. Racing in five states from 2006-08, Southwestern Heat earned $155,340 from 17 starts, and
his resume included a second-place finish in the ’07 Hirsch Jacobs Stakes (G3) at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, Maryland.
Southwestern Heat has sired the earners of more than $2.3 million from five crops, includ- ing multiple stakes winner Bryn’s Fancy Pants.
The stallion died due to colic in February 2017. Stealing Home is also one of four winners
from as many starters produced by Warning Track, a homebred 12-year-old daughter of the Gone West stallion Grand Slam. The filly’s sec- ond dam, the winning Danzig mare Madame Modjeska, is a half sister to two stakes winners: Stravinsky, a two-time Group 1 winner in England in 1999, and Moscow Ballet (IRE), a stakes winner in England in ’04 and the third- place finisher in that season’s Secretariat Stakes (G1) at Arlington Park near Chicago.
Stealing Home traces back to her third dam, Fire The Groom, a daughter of Blushing Groom (FR) who won five stakes from 1990-91, including the 1991 Beverly D. Stakes (G1) at Arlington Park and was a half sister to Group 1 winner Dowsing.
Stealing Home has won two of three starts, her only defeat being a second-place finish, 7 1/2 lengths behind winner Hustle Up, in the
4 1/2-furlong, $162,905 Copper Top Futurity (R) at Sunland Park on April 15.
Scotty Who finished second and was fol- lowed by Skeeter Who, Jo Jo Who, Hennessy Heat, and Trace Of Gold.
Scotty Who is a homebred son of Quinton’s Gold owned by Sam E. Stevens and Sammy L. Stevens of Lamesa, Texas. The gelding has won one of three races and has banked $16,596, and he was a finalist in the Copper Top Futurity.
A homebred Indian Firewater gelding campaigned by Sam E. Stevens and Sammy L. Stevens, Skeeter Who has earned $8,180 from two outs. His resume includes a second-place finish in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden-special- weight dash for New Mexico-breds at Sunland Park on April 17.
gelding has won eight of 32 starts and has earned $181,344, and his resume includes a second-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Winning Merlot, in the 300-yard, $212,450 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Moon River is a gray 4-year-old First Moonflash mare owned by Norberto Morales Perez. A finalist in last year’s Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) at Sunland Park, Moon River has won two of 16 starts, and the $4,000 third-place share of the Jimmy Drake purse pushed his bankroll to $47,709.

David Bloomer’s Mamacita Cartel, a home- bred 4-year-old daughter of Big Daddy Cartel, earned her first stakes victory in the May 25, $39,600 Jimmy Drake Stakes (RG3) for New Mexico-breds at SunRay Park.
Prepped by Cynthia Gonzalez, Mamacita Cartel covered 400 yards in :19.856 and earned an 87 speed index under jockey Edgar Martinez. The $24,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed the bay mare’s bankroll to $89,937.
Mamacita Cartel has won her last three starts, including a pair of allowance dashes during the Sunland Park meet. The mare’s sire, Big Daddy Cartel, is a 9-year-old son of the Holland Ease stal- lion Corona Cartel and Miss Racy Eyes, a graded stakes winning daughter of Mr Eye Opener.
A half brother to stakes winner Racy La Jolla, Big Daddy Cartel raced exclusively at Ruidoso Downs in 2011 and was a finalist in the All American (G1) and Rainbow (G1) futu- rities. The stallion has sired the earners of more than $2.7 million from three crops,including graded stakes winner and 2017 All American Futurity runner-up Bigg Daddy, and graded
stakes winners Daddys Blushing and A Super Sonic Boom.
Big Daddy Cartel is owned by and stands for a $5,000 fee at Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico.
Mamacita Cartel’s dam, the homebred 11-year- old Woodbridge mare Posies Woodette, won
the 2010 New Mexico Breeders’ Championship (RG3) at Albuquerque Downs. Her second dam, Posies, was a winning California-bred daughter
of Calyx who ran third in the ’91 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity (G2) at Los Alamitos. Raced exclusively in New Mexico,
Mamacita Cartel has won four of 11 starts. Of the mare’s total bankroll, $59,820 has been pocketed this season.
Dungarees Version finished second, a neck behind Mamacita Cartel. Moon River, Princess Jessie Jane, Comin To Your Town, Daddys Masurati, Laynis Diamond, and Go Daddy Gone completed the order of finish.
