The Prize Classic

The Prize is the first classic for two year olds each season at the Hipodromo de las Americas in honor of the Quarter Horse of the same name. The Prize was born in 1993 and was a son of Chicks Beduino out of Easy Jets Twayna. With a few performances in his first and only season, he demonstrated outstanding skills.
Traditionally, imported U.S. runners have participated at a distance of 300 yards. In this instance, 19 individuals were registered to the two qualifying races on April 17 for the 10 fastest at that distance. At the head of these was the filly Agent Provocateur with :15.21.
The finals took place three weeks later and the colt Warp Wagon was chosen as favorite at the betting windows, followed by the afore- mentioned Agent Provocateur.
At the start, the colt Convergence was bumped and his path was cutoff, sandwiched between Shiaway Dash and Warp Wagon
and relegated to the rear. Meanwhile, Agent Provocateur escaped at full speed and ran firmly in the middle of the sandy track well supported by Moisés González García. However, from the right side sorrel filly Enthusiastique, advanced furiously, ready to give chase under the ener- getic command of Eddi Cuellar.
Her intensity gave her the result and, in the last four strides, the daughter of Dominyum out of Zenergy (by First Down Dash) took over and managed to cross in front by a neck, stopping the clock at :15.19 for a SI of 98, which is excellent in just her second start.
The filly, saddled by trainer Jose Erick Ocampo, reached the finals after recording :15.35 in her trial heat for the third fastest time. Her win means the return of Cuadra Armadillo to victories in Classics with indi- viduals of American upbringing.
The reward for her efforts was 304,860 pesos (approximately US $ 17,140) for a total purse of 508,100 pesos (approximately US $28,566).
Agent Porvocateur (Walk Thru Fire - Favored) came in second assisted by Moises González García for Cuadra San Lazaro de Arara and trainer Simon Martin Hernandez Diaz.
In third place, more than 2-lengths behind, was the filly Miss Blindside B (Apollitical Jess - Miss Wide Open) directed by Jose Edgar Dominguez. She is owned by Cuadra San Luis Aculco and trained by Simon Martin Hernandez Diaz.

The Prize es el primer clásico para dos añeros que se corre cada temporada en el Hipódromo de Las Américas, en honor al Cuarto de Milla que llevó ese nombre, nacido en 1993 e hijo de Chicks Beduino en Easy Jets Twayna. Con unas cuantas actuaciones en su primera y única tem- porada (1995), demostró aptitudes sobresalientes.
Tradicionalmente han participado corredores importados de Estados Unidos en distancia de 300 yardas. En esta ocasión fueron inscritos 19 ejemplares a las dos carreras de calificación, mis- mas que se realizaron el 17 de abril de 2016 para obtener los 10 más rápidos en dicha distancia;
a la cabeza de estos se ubicó la potranca Agent Provocateur con 15.21 segundos
La final tuvo lugar tres semanas después; el potro Warp Wagon fue el elegido como favorito en las taquillas de apuesta, seguido de la mencionada Agent Provocateur.
En la partida fue golpeado y le cerraron el paso al potro Convergence entre Shiaway Dash (3) y Warp Wagon (5), quedando relegado a la retaguardia. En tanto, Agent Provocateur (6)
se escapó a toda velocidad y con firmeza por el centro de la arenosa avenida, bien apoyada por Moisés González García. Sin embargo, por la banda derecha avanzaba con furia la alazana Enthusiastique (8) dispuesta a darle caza, bajo el mando enérgico de Eddi Cuéllar.
La férrea intentona dio resultado, y en los últimos cuatro trancos la hija de Dominyum en Zenergy (por First Down Dash) se puso al frente y logró una diferencia de cuello a su favor, deteniendo el
cronómetro en 15.19 segundos para un SI de 98, que es excelente en su segunda partida.
La potranca ensillada por el entrenador Erick José Ocampo, llegó a la final después de registrar 15.35 segundos en su “heat”, siendo este el tercer mejor tiempo. Su triunfo significa el retorno de la Cuadra Armadillo a las victorias en clásicos con ejemplares de crianza norteamericana.
La recompensa por su esfuerzo fue de 304,860 pesos ($17,140 US aproximadamente) de una bolsa total de 508,100 pesos ($28,566 US aproximadamente).
Agent Porvocateur (Walk Thru Fire – Favored), llegó en segundo lugar asistida por Moisés González García, para la Cuadra San Lázaro de Arará y el entrenador Simón Martín Hernández Díaz.
Para la tercera plaza, más de dos largos atrás, se colocó la potranca Miss Blindside B (Apollitical Jess – Miss Wide Open), dirigida por José Edgar Domínguez; es propiedad de la Cuadra San Luis Aculco y la entrena el propio Simón Martín Hernández Díaz.
