was Hijo Beauty by Spotted Bull by Bull Dog by Teddy. When we add the blood of Teddy from Raise Your Glass through Good Blood and Case Ace, this gives the pedigree of Special Effort a breeding pattern to Teddy of 5 X 7 X 5 X 6.
Raise Your Glass is represented by several maternal grandsons with good
sire records. 1986 Champion Aged Stallion Sir Alibi is one of them. He earned $356,192 winning such races as the World Championship Classic-G1 at Ruidoso Downs. Sir Alibi was the sire of horses that earned nearly $5 million on the track, including Tempt Me Not, the dam of A Tempting Chick who is the dam of Tempting Dash. Tempting Dash is the sire of a number of runners including the 2-time Champion Kiss My Hocks.
The dam of Sir Alibi is Slumber Party, a mare from the first crop of Raise Your Glass. She was out of Miss Moolah Bar by Moolah Bux. Her other stakes winners included No Tell Motel ($166,550), Layover Charlie ($104,808), and Malestrom ($46,059). The sire of Sir Alibi was Streakin Six.
The next maternal grandson of Raise Your Glass that we will look at is Streakin La Jolla, an undefeated racehorse with 8 wins in 8 starts including the Firecracker Futurity and the Firecracker Derby. His third stakes win came in the All American Derby Consolation. He won $56,227 in
his race career, and his foals would earn $25,071,040 on the racetrack. His foals earned 908 ROM with 87 stakes winners, including his leading money winners World Champion Streakin Sin Tacha ($692,842) and Champion/World Champion sire Mr Jess Perry ($687,184).
Streakin La Jolla was out of Bottom’s Up, another one of the mares from the 1973 crop of Raise Your Glass. She was out of La Jolla by St Bar. St Bar was a son of Three Bars and his dam was Bella St Mary by Spotted Bull by Bull Dog by Teddy, giving us another shot of Teddy blood in the scheme of things. This also makes St Bar and Double Devil half-brothers, both out of Bella St Mary.
The sire of Streakin La Jolla is Streakin Six, the 1979 Rainbow Futurity winner and second in the All American Futurity that year. He came back at three to win
the New Mexico State Fair Handicap and finish third in the Kansas Derby. He retired with $473,937 in earnings with 10 wins
in 19 starts. He sired foals that earned $17,349,990 with 73 stakes winners. His foals include such Champions as Sixy Chick, Six Fortunes, Sterling Sport, and Dean Miracle.
1981 World Champion/Triple Crown winner Special Effort, who has sired nearly $19 million, including . . .
1991 World Champion/multiple Champion sire/ 1988 Champion/Champion sire Bully Bullion World Champion broodmare sire Special Leader
($644,535) and All American Derby winner Medley Glass ($394,521).
The foal that put Raise Your Glass on the map was Special Effort, the only horse to date to win the Triple Crown when he annexed the 1981 Kansas Futurity, Rainbow Futurity and the All American Futurity. He won 13 of 14 starts with an additional stakes win in the Kansas Derby and a third in the All American Derby. He was the 1981 World Champion, Champion Two Year Old, and Champion Two-Year-Old Colt, and then the the 1982 Champion Three-Year-Old Colt.
Special Effort sired foals that have earned $18,816,626 with 1,048 ROM and 75 stakes winners, including such Champions as Special Leader, Easygo Effort, Special Project, Bully Bullion, Sweet N Special,
Special Phoebe, and Concorde Special. The daughters of Special Effort have produced foals that have earned $35,966,626 with 116 stakes winners. Some of the Champions out of Special Effort mares include Eyesa Special, Eye Opening Episode, Deelish, Tiny First Effort, Mars Blackman, and Especially Rare.
When you look at the pedigrees of Raise Your Glass runners, you find he was a good cross on many different bloodlines. But when we look at Special Effort, we see an interesting tie to the blood of Teddy that is found in the pedigree of both his sire Raise Your Glass and his dam Go Effortlessly.
Go Effortlessly was sired by Double Devil by Double Bid. The dam of Double Devil was Bella St Mary by Spotted Bull by Bull Dog, by Teddy. The dam of Go Effortlessly
