Dixie Downs Futurity
MAKINPROUDMOVES

An impressive purse will bring out the runners, and there was was $60,925 up for grabs at Dixie Downs in St. George, Utah. The little track with the big purse was hosting the Dixie Downs Futurity on April 16.
The trials, which were held on April 4, were dominated by Makinproudmoves and the final was simply a replay.
In the trials, Makinproudmoves and rider J.A. Figueroa won their heat and sat at the top of the list of qualifiers.
Figueroa had the riding assignment in the finals as well, and Makinproudmoves stopped the clock
at :15.293 for the 300-yard contest. The 2-year-old chestnut gelding banked the first place check of $27,417 for his team that includes breeder/owner XG Bar Racing LLC and trainer Josh Taylor.
Out of unraced Proud Moon Bug, Makinproudmoves is the second stakes runner in
the brood. The mare is the dam of 100% winners/ ROM from her three starters, including stakes placed Pappas Lil Bug.
Makinproudmoves, who now has a record of two wins from two starts, becomes his mare’s first stakes winner.
The team of owner A&C Racing and Roping and trainer Chancey Spencer took home second, third, fourth and fifth place money.
AR Cajungutee (Winners Version-Brooks Who Dat) was second with Tony Guymon in the saddle.
Midnight Version (Winners Version-Brooks Midnight) was third and Oscar Cervantes was in the irons.
Cypress Sally (Winners Version-Luscious Legs) finished fourth and was followed by Tightly Twisted Del (Freighttrain B-Pams Lucky Lady), Fames Dash (Shining First Dash-Feature Miss Fame) and Buckshot Cartel (SS Samson-Monday Night Miracle).

For 47 years in a row, Dixie Downs has hosted the Dixie Downs Derby. This year, the quaint little family friendly track offered a total purse of $26,000
for the 350-yard contest.
It was The Next Good Reason who crossed the
finish line with a time of :17.243 and banked the $11,700 first place check on April 16.
The three-year-old bay filly now has a total bankroll of $20,090. Jesus Canales rode the winner in the April 2 trials and the finals as well, scoring the fastest qualifying time.
Now with this victory in the Dixie Downs Derby, The Next Good Reason has become a stakes winner for breeder/owner Rodney Christiansen.
The Next Good Reason has won three of 11 starts. She has a top speed index of 108.
The Next Good Reason, who was trained by Jason Palmer, was bred in Utah out of ROM earner So So Sunday Surprise. The mare has produced five winners and six ROM earners from eight starters.
The Next Good Reason becomes the mare’s sec- ond stakes winner and top money earner. The other stakes winner is So Fit To Fly, winner of the 2007 Dixie Downs Futurity.
Favorite Bet ran a steady race and got up for second place. The filly was ridden by Tony Guymon for owners Clayton and Kaye Russell. Mark Skeen is the conditioner. Favorite Bet was the second fastest qualifier from the Dixie Downs Derby trials. Mighty Fine finished in third for owner Dale Winterton and trainer Chancey Spencer. Tyson Lusk was handling the reins. Mighty Fine was the fourth fastest qualifier from the trials.
DJD Special Stone (First Prize Stone-DJD
Shes Special) was fourth, followed by Pappadeux (Pappasito-Proud Lady Bug), Fames Jess Sweet (One Sweet Jess-Go For Fame), Semper Fi (Walk Thru Fire-Kingman Kin) and Brooks Big Boy (Winners Version-Runnning Brook Gal).
