Carl Pevehouse once told his wife, Rozella, that if anything ever happened to him, she should sell all of their horses. He didn’t want her
to have to handle the large racing and breeding operation. But after Carl passed away in 2014, Rozella decided to continue in memory of her husband, and it paid off with Jess Good Candy’s victory in the Sept. 7 All American Futurity-G1.
“This is truly a blessing for us and it’s a tribute to my husband, who worked so hard to get this Candy line going,” said Rozella a few days after the race. “He’s wanted this, and I wish he had been here to see it.”
Carl did, however, get to see his All American Futurity winner as a youngster. Jess Good Candy was foaled in Oklahoma on Feb. 23, 2013, and Carl died on April 27, 2014.
He witnessed plenty from the family perform well, but he missed the biggest of all. Jess Good Candy took an unbeaten record into the Futurity final. Because none of those
