EYE ON THE CARD

Omar Hernandez has had his eye on Eye On The Card since the colt was a baby. Hernandez’s brother-in-law, Efrain Mendez,
bred Eye On The Card, and the youngster has developed as well as Hernandez could hope for, most recently scoring in the July 24 Rainbow Futurity-G1 at Ruidoso Downs.
“It was amazing,” said Hernandez. “It was a great race, with super good horses. He’s fast.”
Hernandez knew Eye On The Card would have to be fast to beat the talented field that lined up for the Rainbow Futurity. His colt went off as the 6-1 fourth choice.
Jockey Juan Pulido had Eye On The Card ready when the gate opened, and for most of the 400 yards, Eye On The Card battled with fastest- qualifier Cyber Attack. Eye On The Card pulled away in the final yards to win by three-quarters of a length in :19.419 for a 101 speed index.
Pulido was completing a big double, having ridden A Political Candy V to victory in the Rainbow Derby-G1 the day before.
