Four Corners Futurity-G3
FAST N FuRIOuS B

Kathy Pruitt Germany of Madill, Oklahoma, didn’t attend last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale to buy a horse. She had recently
lost her cousin, Quarter Horse broker James Pruitt, to cancer, and she felt that being around his friends at the sale might cheer her up.
“This little horse went through the sale, and nobody would buy him,” reacalled Germany, who had never owned a racehorse before. But she liked the colt, named Fast N Furious B. She went back to the barns after the sale and negotiated to buy him privately.
“I used to run barrels,” she commented. “I thought if he couldn’t be a racehorse, he could run barrels.”
Fast N Furious B won’t be running bar- rels in his immediate future. In his very first start, he won his trial for the Four Corners Futurity-G3 as the fastest qualifier, and he came back to win the rich final at SunRay Park on June 17.
Both times Freddie Martinez rode Fast
N Furious B, and both times the youngster was feeling so good that he threw his rider. Fortunately, Martinez wasn’t hurt either time.
“He’s still just a really green horse,” said trainer John Stinebaugh of El Paso. “He dumped Freddie off before his trial. They caught him quickly in the 4 1/2-furlong chute,
and he still qualified the fastest.”
In the final as the 7-5 favorite, Fast N
Furious B broke well to take the early lead in the 350-yard event. Surf N Turf Dude and Jess Like Stoli came on to edge him, but Fast N Furious B redoubled his efforts and won by a head in :17.247.
“The rest of them didn’t have enough to come and catch him,” said Martinez.
As Martinez pulled up on the backside, Fast N Furious B dumped him again.
“I thought, ‘Where’d he
go?’” Stinebaugh said with a
laugh. “We had a devil of a time getting him back to the winner’s circle to get his picture made.”
Germany says that while Fast N Furious B may be a tiger on the track, he’s a sweetheart in his stall.
“He runs like the devil in a race, like he’s running for his life,” she said. “In the stall, he nuzzles you.”
Germany bought him as a colt from his breeder, Bielau Oaks Ranch. Monica Williams, the ranch’s director, recommended Stinebaugh as a trainer because Bielau uses him.
“When we got him gate-broke, he showed a lot of speed,” Stinebaugh said. “Then he
backed up. When I got him, he had some cryptorchid problems. He went from win- ning in his works to getting caught.”
Stinebaugh recommended gelding the colt, and while at first Germany was reluctant to make that decision, she eventually agreed. Gelding took care of the problem,
and Fast N Furious B again trained well. The lost time meant that he missed the Heritage Place Futurity-G1 at
Remington Park, and so Stinebaugh pointed him for the Four Corners.
Germany, who also runs an all-breed dog rescue in Madill, was ecstatic to win a big futurity with her very first racehorse.
“I was speechless,” she said. “It’s a once-in- a-lifetime thing.”
Bielau bred Fast N Furious B in Texas from the winning mare Hollywood A List. With five starters, Hollywood A List has produced four winners, including 2012
Skip Zimmerman Memorial Stakes win-
ner Hollywood Trickster and stakes-placed Hollywood Caliente. Hollywood A List is a half-sister to Okey Dokey Fantasy, a two-time Grade 1 winner and earner of $576,521.
Surf N Turf Dude (Wave Carver-In The Open) finished second with Noe Garcia in the irons. J.J. Gonzales II trains the colt for Mike Parker. Second in his racing debut, Surf N Turf Dude won his Four Corners trial as the second-fastest qualifier.
Jess Like Stoli (Stoli-Miss Jess Rogue) ran third, a neck behind Surf N Turf Dude. Esgar Ramirez piloted the colt for owner-trainer Cynthia Gonzalez. Jess Like Stoli finished second to Fast N Furious B in their trial and was the fourth-fastest qualifier.
Completing the field were Coleidascope (Bill Cole-Streak Of Indigo), Stockton Six (Tres Seis-Smashes It), Straightfromtheheart (FDD Dynasty-My Special Phoebe), Royal Satin Fame (Dash Ta Fame-Im Royal Satin), Makinspecialmoves (Maknmoves-Hum Dash Special), and Voodoo Corona (Stel Corona- Million Dollar Dash). Orions Shootin Star was scratched after flipping in the gate and delay- ing the start by about five minutes.
