Dash For Cash Futurity-G2
PAINT ME A SINNER
by Michael Compton
Claudia Avila’s Paint Me A Sinner left little doubt who was best in the $405,585 Dash for Cash Futurity-G2 at Lone Star Park on Oct. 6, as the promising filly led from start
to finish in her stakes debut and scored her third consecutive victory in the process.
Paint Me A Sinner began her three-race win streak with a victory in the July 28 trials to the Retama Juvenile Challenge. She qualified to that one, but was scratched in the finals.
She then captured her Sept. 22 Dash For Cash Futurity heat in wire-to-wire fashion, gaining 1 1/2-lengths at one point and finish- ing the trial 3/4-lengths to the good. Her :19.674 was good for the third fastest qualify- ing spot in the finals.
Ridden by Ricardo Garza-Cruz, who has been aboard the filly in each of her victories now, Paint Me A Sinner flashed sharp speed away from the gate in the Dash For Cash Futurity finals.
She exited the three-post on the lead and had a head margin at the first call as she dueled with longshot Some Tempting Dash in the
early stages. She increased her advantage to
a 1/2-length in the stretch, putting that rival away and held at bay a late charge from odds- on favorite and fastest qualifier Mpshinning to score by a 1/2-length at the finish line.
Paint Me A Sinner com- pleted the 400 yards :19.624, earning a career-best speed index of 99.
This win helped trainer Rolando Almanza make history. Almanza became the first trainer ever to saddle
the winner in each of the Dash For Cash stakes races. In addition to the Futurity, he also won the Dash for Cash Derby-G3 with EOS A Political Win, and the Dash For Cash Juvenile with Avila’s Zoomin Patriot in the two races just prior to this one.
“We knew she’d break out front, but weren’t sure she could hold them off,” Almanza said
of Paint Me A Sinner after the big win. “She’s such a little filly, but she’s got a big heart. She doesn’t know how big she is.
“I had the fastest qualifier last year in the Futurity, but couldn’t run in the final because
the horse couldn’t come back,” Almanza continued. “I’ve been wanting to win this race for a while, and to win all three—the Juvenile, Derby and Futurity—is a dream come true.”
The Dash For Cash Futurity winner’s check of $162,234 increased Paint
Me A Sinner’s bankroll to $170,676. Her race record has improved to 5-3(1)-1-1.
Bob and Jerry Gaston bred Paint Me A Sinner out of winner Shades Of Sin
Tacha. Paint Me A Sinner is the first starter out of Shades Of Sin Tacha. The mare is a full sister to Viva Mi Corazon, winner of the
