Volcoms Heart cost only $9,000, a veritable bargain considering the waves she has made in Mexico. With six stakes victories and another eight stakes placings, she has proved herself to be a consistent performer. She had her best year in 2015, and for that she was awarded the title of Mexican Champion.
It isn’t the first award Volcoms Heart has earned. The Mexican Quarter Horse Association honored her as the American Two-Year-Old Champion Filly of 2013 and the American Three-Year-Old Champion Filly of 2014.
P.K. Thomas bred Volcoms Heart in Texas and consigned her through Lazy E Ranch LLC to the 2012 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Rachuan Suarez MVZ bought her for $9,000 on behalf of Mexican interests. Jose Manuel Vasco owns her, running her in the name of his Cuadra Estanzuela. Carlos Villanueva Campos is her official trainer.
Volcoms Heart scored her first stakes victory of 2015 in the AQHA Hipodromo Distaff Challenge. Off slowly, she nevertheless made up ground to such an extent that she completed the 400-yards in :19.76. It was even more of
an accomplishment because she had to van 15 hours to the race.
On April 12, she returned to the Hipodromo de las Americas for the Clasico Chirina Glorys and was even more impressive. One Famous Episode led early, but Volcoms Heart overhauled her and won by 1 1/4-lengths.
Volcoms Heart’s courage was tested in the Oct. 25 Merced Gomez Orozco Stakes. Kangaroofirst sped to the lead, and the two of them battled it out, with Volcoms Heart ultimately winning by 1/2-length.
After Volcoms Heart qualified for the Clasico Campeon de Campeones (Mexico’s version of the Champion of Champions), her owner decided to leave her at the Hipodromo de las Americas so that she wouldn’t have to make the long van ride back for the final.
Maybe that decision helped, though maybe Volcoms Heart simply had the necessary talent. The combination worked, as Volcoms Heart won yet again, this time by a neck over BP Southern Wave. She stopped the timer in :21.56 for the 440-yards.
