DASHIN BROWN STREAK
By Michael Compton
Dashin Brown Streak has evidently taken his name to heart. The brown 5-year- old gelding is on quite the winning streak,
and the son of Hotdoggin made it five consecutive victories, three of them stakes, with an authoritative score in the 440-yard $252,720 Remington Park Invitational Championship-G1 on May 30.
Campaigned by the Estate of C.W. Navarre and Melvin Hatley, Dashin Brown Streak broke alertly and engaged for the lead shortly after the start. With G.R. Carter aloft, Dashin Brown Streak assumed command in the lane and rolled to a driving win, defeat- ing Pure D Spit and rider Jesus Salazar by 3/4-length at the wire. Dashin Brown Streak required just :21.315 (not far off Priceless Feature’s track record of :20.981) to complete the distance, earning a speed index of 101 as the 3-2 race favorite.
“He just went right to the front and it was just a matter of the jockey not messing it up then,” Carter said. “I just put a little pressure on him to get him to the other end.
“He broke super and Houdini broke right with him,” Carter added. “Whenever this big horse is in front, and as long as I’m putting a little pressure on him, there wasn’t anybody in there I was really concerned about. It’s going to
take a good horse to beat him when he runs his best.”
For Carter, it was his fourth career win in the race. He also piloted the winner of the inaugural event in 1989, The Widgeon, followed by wins with Higher Goals (1995) and Country Chicks Man (2007).
The Remington Park
Invitational Championship
was the second Grade 1
win for Dashin Brown Streak, who also annexed the Leo Stakes-G1 at Remington on March 28. His current winning streak dates back to last year and also includes a victory in the Sam’s Town Stakes in December at Evangeline Downs.
Now a winner in 11 of 18 starts, Dashin Brown Streak has earned $452,490. In addi- tion to his stakes successes, he is also multiple stakes placed, having finished 2nd in the 2012 Evangeline Downs Futurity and in the 2013 Heritage Place Derby-G2, and 3rd in both the 2013 Texas Classic Derby-G1 and the 2014 Miss Polly Classic-G3 at Delta Downs.
Bred in Louisiana by Flat Get It Farm, Dashin Brown Streak is produced from the
winning Streakin La Jolla mare Annas Streakin Dash. Dashin Brown Streak is a 1/2-brother to stakes-placed Big Streakin and is the lone stakes winner for his dam.
Rodrigo Covarrubias owns and trains Pure D Spit (Spit Curl Jess-Pure Princess), who battled bravely throughout the contest before settling for the place spot.
Ellen Kennedy Racing’s Houdini (Valiant Hero-Pure Oklahoma)
dueled early and faded a tad late to finish third under Cody Jensen. The race’s lone million- aire, Houdini was making his first start of the year in the race.
Followed by JRC Callas First (Winners Award-Calla Missy Jane), Priceless Feature (Feature Mr Jess-Southern Price), Jesscuzican (Feature Mr Jess-Covenant Confirmer), Rock You (Foose-Babe On the Fly), Wagon Full
of Gold (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Cheyennes Bullion), Foxy Moonflash (First Moonflash- Diamonds N Rainbows), Streak Hitter (Walk Thru Fire-Chickasis) & Rockin Disco (Rock Solid Jess-Check This Disco). Gold Digging Ashley was scratched.
