LQHBA Lassie Futurity-RG2
JESSA LOUISIANA ZOOM
by Michael Compton
Making just her 2nd career start, the promising filly Jessa Louisiana Zoom made short work of 8 rivals in the $273,977
LQHBA Lassie Futurity-RG2 at Delta Downs on May 15. With jockey Danny Lavergne in the irons, Jessa Louisiana Zoom vied for command early, dueling with Toastin With Coronas
and Patriots Leaving You away from the gate. The even-money favorite proved too much for her rivals in the lane, however, drawing clear approaching the finish line. Jessa Louisiana Zoom hit the wire 1 1/4-lengths clear of runner-up First Kool Lajolla, stopping the timer in :16.628 and earning a speed index of 93.
Owned by Jason Richards and Michael J. Leblanc, Jessa Louisiana Zoom padded her bankroll to the tune of $136,988, increasing her coffers to $146,888 after the first two starts of her young career. Jessa Louisiana Zoom captured her debut, winning her 330- yard trial heat in :16.676 and recording the fastest qualifying time for the main event.
Richards and Leblanc are no strangers to success. Their colorbearer Louisiana Corona, by Jess Louisiana Blue (as is Jessa Louisiana Zoom), qualified for the All American Derby-G1 before finishing 8th in the presti- gious test after a troubled trip two years ago.
That filly went on to capture two stakes events and boasts earnings of $186,206.
Jessa Louisiana Zoom
was bred in Louisiana by
Lyle Guillory of Alexandria,
Louisiana. She is produced
from the winning Azoom
mare Zoomin for Cash,
who qualified for the 2009
Ruidoso Derby-G1. Jessa
Louisiana Zoom, purchased
by her current connections
for $22,000 as a yearling in 2014, is the first winner for her dam.
Jessa Louisiana Zoom’s second dam is four-time Champion Corona Cash. A daughter of American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame members First Down Dash out of Corona Chick, Corona Cash won 19 of 32 starts in her racing career, banking more than $1.5 million. She won 11 stakes events, including the All American Futurity-G1.
From 27 starters, Corona Cash has produced 18 winners and her runners have amassed earnings of more than $975,000. Corona Cash’s dam, Corona Chick, also a Champion in her racing days, foaled 16 babies,
including Hall of Famer Corona Cartel.
Lassie Futurity second- place finisher First Kool Lajollla (First N Kool-Lauri La Jolla) rolled late under Eddi Martinez to pick up $46,576 for owner Jose Guzman. The bay filly, bred in Louisiana by Shelby Judice, is trained by Jose Garcia.
Patriots Leaving You (Coronas Leaving You-Rios Dashing Patriot) dueled early and held third
for owner Shortstop Racing. Piloted by Randy Edison and conditioned by Miguel Rodriguez, Patriots Leaving You captured her trial heat
by 1-length. Darling Farms LLC bred the bay filly in Louisiana.
Followed by Its a Storm Warning (Game Patriot-Angels Cartel), Toastin With Coronas (Coronas Leaving You-Princess Toast), Punctuality (Jet Black Patriot-Kay P TB),
Jet Black Rogue (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Jess Rogue), Three R First Rose (Struttin To Beduino-KM Dasher) & JB Red Scorpion (Jess An Idea-Third N Coming). One Tough Fox was scratched.
