of the year nominees
following is a list of broodmares for 2014 that were nominated for the 4th Annual Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award.
Since its inception years ago, the original Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award was based on achievement and through their achievement we have honored many of our industry’s great broodmares. The naming of the 2014 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year follows that long standing tradition.
The 2014 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year award is dedicated to highlighting the contribution of the mare to the racehorse industry by bringing together the top mares from four AQHA racing categories:
• Dams of 2014 Champions
• Top 5 Dams of 2014 Money Earners
• Top 5 Dams of 2014 Stakes Winners (ranked
first by number of Stakes Winners & second by Money Earned)
• Top 5 Dams of 2014 Stakes Wins (ranked first by number of Stakes Wins & second by Money Earned)
The nominees from these categories person- ify what it takes to be a great broodmare, and all of these mares were worthy candidates who com- peted to be named the Speedhorse Broodmare
of the Year. They were awarded points based on their placing in the respective categories they qualified for: 5 points for number one in a cat- egory down to 1 point for fifth place. The dams of Champions are awarded 5 points for World Champion, 4 for overall divisional Champions and 3 for age division Champions. A horse receiving both an overall divisional champion- ship and an age division championship will receive the higher award of 4 points.
Only Quarter Horse foals are considered and listed for each mare. Under each mare’s name is a summary of her 2014 produce record.
The statistics include: Starters, Winners, Stakes Winners, Number of Stakes Wins, Stakes Placers, 2014 Money Earnings and 2014 Leading Money Earner with 2014 Earnings.
This is followed by the the categories by which the mare made the list of nominees. Her leading 2014 starter is next, then any additional 2014 starters. At the end of the nominee infor- mation is the point breakdown for each mare.
A big part of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award is to identify the top mares in each category and that is the purpose of this summary. We hope that you enjoy reading about some of the industry’s best broodmares of 2014.
The 2014 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award winner is Look Her Over. The owner will receive an engraved trophy signify- ing their mare as the winner. Look Her Over is covered in depth in this Broodmare Issue. .
