Q: Do you have a favorite quote and, if so, what is it?
A: I’m a little embarrassed to say this, but it’s a “Forrest Gump” quote. It’s,“Dear God, make me a bird, so I can fly far, far away.” The reason is, I have a lot of playful friends and we get in some playful squabbles and that’s usually my response.
Q: If you could sit down and visit with anyone, past or present, who would it be? A: It’s got to be multiple people. Randy Soth, he’s the general manager at Hialeah and he might be one of the greatest people I’ve ever met in my life. He’s a friend, and the times
we get to spend together and talk, I learn something every minute. Everything he says is a life lesson for me. And then, because of our industry and because of how great this guy does his job, it would have to be John Asher
(VP of Communications) at Churchill Downs. I’ve always been very inspired by the quality of work that he is able to do over there.
Q: What drink would your friends describe you as?
A: That’s a hard question to answer. I would offer to be something sophisticated, like a nice pinot noir.
Q: Who’s your favorite athlete of all time, and why?
A: I was very fortunate to be around Jacky Martin in my lifetime and I think he was one of the greatest athletes who ever lived.
Q: If you were making a movie about yourself, who would you cast to play you? A: That’s a difficult one. Lucky for me I have
a twin brother, so I’d have to say I’d just have him do it. My twin brother, Kevin Coady.
Q: What’s one thing you don’t like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: I wish that these towns that are so lucky
to have some of these great racetracks - like Sunland Park, Ruidoso Downs - I wish that these towns would rally around these Quarter Horse tracks because they have the best racing right there at their toes. I wish there was the community response you saw back in the 50s and 60s.
Q: What’s one thing you like about Quarter Horse racing?
A: I’m very fortunate to have some of the great- est friends I’ve ever had in my life, and I met them through Quarter Horse racing.
