  The fastest qualifier and 7-5 favorite in a full field of 10 state-bred 2-year-olds, Jesses Wish won the April 3, $313,030 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Jesses Wish covered 300 yards in :15.075 and earned a 103 speed index while aided by a reported 11-mph tail wind. Mario Delgado rode the bay son of Jesse James Jr for owners Javier M. Chavez and Heysol Howlet, and trainer James Gonzales III.
Jesses Wish was bred by Mac and Janis Murray’s MJ Farms at Veguita, New Mexico, and he was purchased as a yearling by Javier Chavez and Jaime Dominguez for $50,000 at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding’s sire, Jesse James Jr, was a stakes-winning son of Mr Jess Perry who ran second in Not For Long’s 2004 Golden State Derby (G1) at Los Alamitos Racecourse in California.
Racing from 2003-06, Jesse James Jr won five of 21 starts and earned $167,275. The stallion has sired the earners of more than $21.1 million from 12 crops, including 2015 AQHA champion 3-year-old filly Astica, and multiple graded stakes winners Major Bites, Colby James, Osbaldo, and Princess Jesse.
Jesse James Jr was a full brother to 2006 Retama Park Derby (G1) winner Jesstified and a half-brother to stakes winner Loose Teller. The stallion died at the age of 16 on August 24,
2017, after a battle with laminitis.
Jesses Wish is out of Wish You Had One
To, a winning 13-year-old daughter of the Corona Cartel stallion Stel Corona who ran second in the 2012 Tommy “Duke” Smith Handicap (RG2) and Four Corners Senora Stakes (RG3) at SunRay Park. The gelding
is a full brother to Jess Tequila Talkin, a winning Jesse James Jr gelding who ran third in the 2020 Shue Fly Stakes (RG3) at Sunland Park, and he is a half-brother to Burn One Down For Me, a stakes-placed Woodbridge gelding and finalist in the 2019 New Mexican Spring Futurity.
Jesses Wish’s second dam, the winning Devon Lane (TB) mare Devons Wish, foaled Girlonthego, the winner of the 2014 Zia Futurity (RG1) at Ruidoso Downs and the dam of multiple graded stakes winners Cat Daddys Lil Girl and Ryansmanonthemoon. He traces back to his third dam, Kiptys Wish, a winning and multiple stakes placed daughter of the Kiptydoo stallion Kiptys Charger and a half- sister to the stakes placed Easy Grant and Key To The Cash.
Jesses Wish made his debut with a clear
1 3/4-length win in the sixth of eight New Mexican Spring Futurity trials on March 12. The $147,125 winner’s share of the purse from his second victory in as many outs increased his earnings to $152,465.
Cruzin For Chickz, a 27-1 longshot and the fifth-fastest qualifier, finished second, a neck behind Jesses Wish. Major Game, Mr Tres Effort, Sheza Ahotmess, Sauvignon Smooth, Fancyinallofus, Doin Something Right,
Doing Something Good and Daddys First Fire completed the order of finish.
Cruzin For Chickz is a homebred son of the Chicks A Blazin stallion Jess A Chicks campaigned by Curtis Crenwelge, Jim Laird and Jose R. Espinosa. The bay gelding banked $56,345 to bring his earnings to $58,125 from two races.
A chestnut son of freshman sire Gronkowski, Major Game was the third-fastest qualifier. The gelding has earned $39,773 from two outs for his owners, Jaime Perez, Andres Estrada and J. Santos Espinoza.
 Jesses Wish’s winning connections include owner Javier M. Chavez & Heysol Howlet, trainer James Gonzales III, and jockey Mario Delgado.
