the Challenge reaches another continent demonstrates just how valuable the program is.
In 2017, the connection between the North
and South American Quarter Horse industries was further strengthened when North American Quarter Horse representatives traveled to Brazil. The group included representatives from the American Quarter Horse Association as well as Speedhorse Magazine owners John and Susan Bachelor.
Prime Panther was bred in Brazil by Erico Braga and listed as raced by Cowboy Ranch and Haras Mi Sueño. The horse’s breeding further demonstrates the ties between continents. Prime Panther is a gray son of Texas-bred Panther Mountain, a multiple graded stakes winner and earner of $459,921. Prime Panther’s dam, Brazilian-bred Shezaroyaldream, is a daughter of graded stakes-placed Texas-bred Royal Streakin and traces back to First Down Dash on both sides of her pedigree.
The 440-yard South American Championship Challenge was held on March 25 at the Jockey Club de Sorocaba in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Prime Panther won by 1/2-length in :21.848, earning $43,752. Verdugo Dash finished second, with Good Twin third.
In 2017 in Argentina, Prime Panther also won the Copa Challenge.
