OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Following is a list of broodmares for 2019 that have been nominated for the 9th Annual Speedhorse Broodmare of the
Year Award. Since its inception years ago, the original Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award was based on achievement and through their achievement we have honored many of our industry’s great broodmares. The naming of the 2019 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year will follow that long standing tradition.
The 2019 Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year award is dedicated to highlighting the contribution of the mare to the racehorse industry by bringing together the top mares from four AQHA racing categories:
• Dams of 2019 Champions
• Top 5 Dams of 2019 Money Earners
• Top 5 Dams of 2019 Stakes Winners
(ranked first by number of Stakes Winners
& second by Money Earned)
• Top 5 Dams of 2019 Stakes Wins (ranked
first by number of Stakes Wins & second by Money Earned)
All of these mares are worthy candidates
to be named the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year. They were awarded points based on their placing in the respective categories they quali- fied for: 5 points for number one in a category down to 1 point for fifth place. The dams of Champions are awarded 5 points for World Champion, 4 for overall divisional Champions and 3 for age division Champions. A horse receiving both an overall divisional champion- ship and an age division championship will receive the higher award of 4 points.
Only Quarter Horse foals are considered and listed for each mare. Under each mare’s name is a summary of her 2019 produce record. The statistics include: Starters, Winners,
Stakes Winners, Number of Stakes Wins, Stakes Placers, 2019 Money Earnings and 2019 Leading Money Earner with 2019 Earnings.
This is followed by the mare’s pedigree and a photo of her leading money earner of 2019. The categories by which the mare made the list of nominees is next, then her 2019 starters are named individually, fol- lowed by any remaining foals that did not race in 2019.
A big part of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award is to identify the top mares in each category and that is the purpose
of this summary. We hope that you enjoy reading about some of the industry’s best broodmares of 2019.
The owner of the Speedhorse Broodmare of the Year Award will receive an engraved trophy signifying their mare as the overall winner. We will be announcing the 2019 winner in our June Broodmare Issue.
