                 Los Alamitos Oaks For Fillies-G3
DREAMS DIVINE
by Tracy Gantz
Dreams Divine’s personality truly is divine. Mike Robbins, who trains her for Reliance Ranches LLC, noted that the filly is a sweet-
heart, but that she pays attention to her job on the racetrack.
“She’s really good at the barn, good to be around and has a really good disposition,” stated Robbins. “But when you take her to the races, she’s into it. She’s pretty much a handful in the paddock and feels good. She’s really strong.”
That strength was evident in the $395,430 Los Alamitos Oaks-G3 on March 28, though few people had the opportunity to see it first- hand. The nation’s richest race for 3-year-old Quarter Horse fillies, went off without specta- tors amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’ve never had that happen before,” said Robbins, who said it was strange without fans.
With jockey Oscar Peinado aboard and sent away as the 3-5 favorite, Dreams Divine broke 4th from the 8-post and motored forward, pulling away while drifting in and scoring by a 1/2-length in :17.768 for 400 yards and a 93 speed index.
“She didn’t get away very good,” admitted Robbins. “She was pretty fresh. But she just did her thing. She always gives it 110%.”
Peinado has ridden Dreams Divine in all three of her starts in 2020, and they have been perfect together.
The filly began the year with a wire-to-wire win in the AB What A Runner Handicap at Los Alamitos, and qualified the fastest in her March 7 trial for the Los Alamitos Oaks, winning her heat wire-to-wire by 3/4-length.
Last year, Dreams Divine
broke her maiden her 1st start
wire-to-wire under a hand
ride. She qualified for the
Robert Adair Kindergarten
Futurity-G2 and ran 3rd in the finals. She qualified fastest to the Ed Burke Million Futurity-G1 and was 2nd by a nose in the finals. She chipped a knee, underwent surgery, and was away from the races for the second half of 2019. She returned spectacularly to be unde- feated thus far in 2020. Robbins said their initial plan was to ship to Ruidoso Downs for the All American Oaks. But, unfortunately, she chipped again and is being retired as a broodmare.
Robbins helped select Dreams Divine at the 2018 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, where Reliance Ranches bought her for $112,000. “She was a heck of an individual - had all the right parts and was really a pretty filly,” Robbins said.
Dreams Divine retires with a total bankroll of $408,209, and a race record of 8-6(2)-1(1)-1(1).
J. Garvan Kelly, J.L. Yother and Nancy Yearsley bred Dreams Divine out of Answer The Dream. The 2-time stakes winner won the 2009 Juno’s Request Stakes-G3. She has produced 15 winners from 22 starters, including stakes win- ners Splendid Cause, Empty
Arms, and stakes-placed runners Jess Envision, Symbol Of Faith, and Copper Stop.
Dunn Ranch’s Southern Wagon (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Marys Southernpolicy) was 2nd under Jesus Ayala for trainer Monty Arrossa. Juan Leon piloted Suite Expectations (Apollitical Jess-Just A Fairytale) to 3rd for Howard Nichols & Thompson Racing Inc. and co-owner/trainer Paul Jones. Followed by Javelina Cantina (Foose-Little Talks), Evee (Favorite Cartel-Hope To Cope), Terra Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Terrific Energy), Ventura Jess JQM (Apollitical Jess-Personal Glory), Jessafamouslady (Mr Jess Perry-Famous Corona Lady) and Kiss Thru Fire (Walk Thru Fire-Fredaville).
