The Mexican Association of Quarter Horse Breeders and Horsemen (AMCCCCM) held the 2020 annual Champion ceremony on Feb. 22, recognizing 20 horses and six peo- ple or stables who stood out in the 2019 racing season at the Hipódromo de las Américas. The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) was represented by Chief International Officer/ Chief Foundation Officer Anna Morrison, accompanied by Rosa Henderson and Ashley Baller. Leann Noguera, Production Manager of Speedhorse, LLC, was also in attendance.
The following day, the four trials for the Mexican Breeding Challenge Derby were dedi- cated to each of the aforementioned, with these ladies awarding the trophies to the trial winners. Before the award ceremony, an emotional recognition was offered to Don Antonio Lobeto Tamés, for his long and fruitful career as a breeder of conformation/halter horses, and also for his work as outgoing president of the AMCCCCM, the post now filled by Javier Rosique León.
The new Executive Committee of the AMCCCCM, headed by Javier Rosique León,
is composed of Adriana Gómez Barnola, as Secretary; Anselmo Aguilar Payán, as Treasurer; and Manuel Queijeiro Piza and Rachuán Suárez Kuri as spokespeople. The Supervisory Board is chaired by Antonio Lobeto Tamés, with Ramiro Alpízar Carrillo as Secretary and Rosalba
Garduño Ytessen as spokesperson. They will be in office until 2022.
The championships of the 2019 season reflect the results that were promptly reported in each of the editions of Speedhorse.
Rancho El Suspiro, from the State of Chiapas, had a trophy harvest thanks to the performance of its horses on the racetrack. Rex Sambaso, Chispita Two, Juanita Cartel and El Pavo Real, in addition to obtaining their individual title, con- tributed to positioning Rancho El Suspiro as the 2019 Champion Owner by Points and Champion Owner by Stakes Wins. Rex Sambaso, who accu- mulated earnings of 4,571,442 pesos ($267,980 dollars), also took home the 2-horse trailer that the AQHA awards annually to the Mexican horse with the most money earned in the season.
Rancho El Suspiro was sustained by the breed- ing of Cuadra La Presita and Everardo Múzquiz. From this stable came the Champions Chispita Two, Juanita Cartel and El Pavo Real, in addi- tion to Malefico Cartel, winner of the Mexican Breeders Futurity Challenge, all sons of the stal- lion Danny Cartel, who is at stud and is owned
by said stables. Consequently, Cuadra La Presita was distinguished as Champion Breeder by Points, and Danny Cartel as Champion Stallion by Points. Rex Sambaso, who grew up as a foal on the prairies owned by Everardo Múzquiz Elguezábal, is also responsible for the fact that her dam The

Answer Lady has now been distinguished as a Champion Broodmare. The daughter of Corona Cartel is originally from Oklahoma, where she was bred by Henry E. Brown.
Cuadra Los Gavilanes had three Champions in the recent 2019 season: Lafishingonabugsmoon, LA Rapid King Judea and JRS Coronas Shadow. Additional merit is attributed in that the first two come from breeding in Mexico, and also that Lafishingonabugsmoon was crowned AQHA Mexican Champion, Champion Mexican Aged Gelding, and was awarded with special distinction the “Merit to the Quarter Horse.” They, along with other runners from their barn, contributed
to Rubén Romo García being designated as Champion Trainer by Stakes Wins.
In the imported division, the performance of two year old Maybellina was highlighted, who remained undefeated in 10 races, including five stakes. Her owner and family received the tro- phies for 2019 Horse of the Year and Champion American Two-Year-Old Filly. Secondly, the bay filly Reacher 16 had an equally impressive season, winning the Quarter Horse Mexican Triple Crown, for which she was recognized as American Champion Three-Year-Old Filly for owner Victoria M.C. and her team.
In the jockeys division, José Ángel Ambrosio Medina won both of the two med- als that are awarded: the Champion Jockey by Stakes Wins and by Points.
The complete list of winners of the awarded championships is included here, with the details of their main merits.
