If not for a bad start in the Blue River Derby, Successful Dash could be riding a five-race winning streak. That bobble in the Blue River
also cost the gelding an opportunity to win a stakes, but he made up for it by capturing the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction Derby.
After winning his Derby trial by 1 1/2 lengths to qualify the fastest, Successful Dash proved he was much the best in the final.
Off a trifle slow, he rushed
up under jockey Gerardo
Garrido to take command
quickly. Roaring home,
Successful Dash repelled all
challengers to win easily by 1
1/4 lengths as the 6-5 favor-
ite. He completed the 400
yards in :20.090 for a speed
index of 97.
Thomas Mosley Jr. trains Successful Dash for owner Randy Thompson. Though he won only one race last
year, Successful Dash ran third in the Jaguar Rocket Stakes. He finished fourth in his 2012 seasonal debut and put together two quick victories before his sixth in the Blue River Derby. Raising his earnings to $67,541, Successful Dash now has five victories in 13 lifetime starts.
Bill Price bred Successful Dash in Indiana by crossing unraced Rita Anns Dash with
Cartel Success. The stallion was part of the 2008 Quarter Horse Racing Association
of Indiana Stallion Service Auction, making his 2009 foals eligible to the Derby. The mare has produced six winners in eight starters, and Successful Dash is her first stakes winner.
Erik Doctor’s Will You Perry Me (Dashing Val- Streakin Keep Sake) finished second for jockey Harold
Collins and trainer Ron Raper. Third in the Blue River Derby, the filly ran third in last year’s Miss Roxie Little Futurity as well.
Raper also trains third-place HQH Burn Notice (Twaynas Dash-Honey Bunny Bug). Troy Crissup rode the gelding for owners David Whitman and Timothy Noel. HQH Burn Notice began his career with four con- secutive victories, including a stakes win in the 2011 Jaguar Rocket.
Rounding out the field were Chilled Patrona (Chilled Corona-Barbi Quick Dash), Planet Dash (Planetary-Canyon Dash), Straw In My Shoe DHD (First Down Straw-Rudy Two Shoes), Swiper (Leaving Memories-Air Flyin Rose), McKenzies Vision (Real Visions- Special Flyin Dymond), Senor Vibora (Papa Larry-Ok Lets Roll), and Chilled Six Pack (Chilled Corona-Six Packin Robin).

ethics Aside is more than happy to take his show on the road. A consummate profes- sional, the 6-year-old horse has started 27 times
at 11 racetracks in seven states and Canada. Already a stakes winner entering the Aug. 18 Bradford Stakes at Hoosier Park, Ethics Aside upped the ante by setting a new track record for 400 yards in winning the event.
Jockey Harold Collins used the number one post position to his
advantage, sending Ethics
Aside straight down the
rail. They broke fourth
and quickly took the lead. Competition arose from the far outside as Got Courage closed ground. But Ethics Aside prevailed by a neck
in :19.730 for a 106 speed index. That broke the previ- ous track record of :19.856, set last October.
Joe Kirk Fulton bred
Ethics Aside in Texas, though the horse has
yet to compete in his native state. Fulton unveiled him at Ruidoso Downs and raced
him twice more at Los Alamitos before owner- trainer Jorge Gonzalez acquired him. Making his first start for Gonzalez at Delta Downs in his 3-year-old debut in 2009, Ethics Aside broke his maiden. His subsequent victories include
the 2012 Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge Stakes at Hialeah Park.
Daring Difference, the dam of Ethics Aside, won the 1994 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 and earned $329,000. She has produced 12 winners from 15 starters, six of them stakes-placed. Daring Difference is a half- sister to Mr Eye Opener and to the dam of World Champion Special Leader.
Juan Delgado piloted Got Courage (Metallic
Lion-Sawachan) to second for owner J. Guadalupe Arevalo and trainer Rolando Almanza. The 5-year-old stakes-winning mare had previously won three straight allowance races.
Almanza also trains third-place finisher Speed Smith (Prime Talent-Speedy Empress). Victor Olivo rode the 4-year-old colt, who is owned by Cesar Rosales and was coming off a victory in the Don Boyd Memorial Challenge.
Completing the field were Toastin Fame (Toast To Dash-Shannons Fame), Fast N Furrious (Country Chicks Man-The Cheetah), Fearles Fred (Fredricksburg-Precious Debutante), Freaking (TR Dasher-Chickasis), Air Born Leader (Leader Of The Class-Air Born Jazz), and Jess Special Candy (Mr Jess Perry-This Candys Special). BT King Chambertin (King Corona-Chambertin) propped and pulled up. Blood Red Cadillac and RK Lady Prospect were scratched.
