P. 10

FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear Members,
This is my first letter to you as the Executive
Director of the New Mexico Horse Breeders Association and yet many of you have known me over the last 25 years as the registrar. I am truly excited to take on this new role. I have been blessed to have a number of individuals help with the transition. First and foremost, I would like to thank Paulette Taylor who has worked tirelessly and on a volunteer basis to supplement my knowledge of the complex banking involved with keeping track of 28 bank accounts! She has also been there day in and day out to help run the office and to keep the office open while I am away. She will be filling the part-time position once we can get
the office caught up and running smoothly. Board Member Jay Taylor has also been a
great help. He took on the job of cleaning up
a store-room that had decades of outdated materials that needed to be trashed or donated, and has been here to help answer the phone, make copies and whatever else was needed to be done. Jay, along with President Ralph Vincent and Board Member Debra Laney have been helping to interview candidates for the Registrar / Administrative Assistant position. At the
time of this letter we still have not been able
to find just the right person for the job. Board Member, Tom Goncharoff, has represented the breeders at meetings that I have not been able to attend during this time of transition.
Zia Festival weekend was a great success!
We had our Town Hall Discussion Saturday morning, the Zia Jamboree Dinner, sponsored by Mr. Raymond Gilder Saturday evening with a dance to follow out on the apron and of course nine New Mexico Bred Stakes races on Sunday. We had a booth in the grandstand during the races and enjoyed visiting with lots and lots of race attendees. Thanks to Amanda Greer of Ruidoso Downs for all her hard work!
I would like to thank Lowell Neumayer, Diane Reed and Walt Wiggins of the All American Ruidoso Select Yearling Sales Company for all of their hard work and for allowing
the Stallion Service Auction to be conducted during the New Mexico Bred Thoroughbred & Quarter Horse Yearling Sales. Ralph Vincent and Tom Goncharoff organized the fundraiser for the Association. We appreciate everyone who supported the event by donating or purchasing a breeding at the auction. The New Mexico Bred Sale was way up from last year! Hopefully this is a good sign of what is to come!
I would also like to thank Don Cook, Beth McKinney and Gerald Richards for working with us to showcase our New Mexico Breds at the Downs At Albuquerque and New Mexico State Fair meets! I really enjoy attending the races at the Downs and am looking forward to watching our New Mexico Breds compete in the next few weeks! That is if I can just get out of this office!
Finally, I would like to send my best wishes to Anna Fay Davis. Anna Fay and I have worked together since 1993 and the place will never be the same without her. She taught me so much during our years together.
I sincerely look forward to the coming year and am very excited about the future of the Association.
