R.D. Hubbard paid $257,000 for the
Select Sale’s third-highest seller, Jess Helene. Consigned by Lazy E Ranch LLC, agent, the black son of Mr Jess Perry is out of Belle Helene, a 7-year-old daughter of Valiant Hero who ran second in the 2013 Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs and is a half-brother to 2016 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt A Revenant.
A total of 33 registered New Mexico-bred yearlings were consigned to the Ruidoso Select Sale, of which 25 sold for an aggregate sum of $735,500 (average per head, $29,420). At last year’s Select Sale, 15 of the 21 registered New Mexico-breds cataloged sold for an aggregate sum of $647,500 (average per head, $43,167).
The top-selling New Mexico-bred, Bigg An Rich (Hip No. 391), was purchased for $70,000 by the Force of Nine Partnership from the consignment of MJ Farms, agent. Bigg An Rich is a gray son of Big Daddy Cartel and Astica,
an 8-year-old daughter of Jesse James Jr and
the sport’s Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in 2015. The colt’s second dam, the First Down Dash mare Alice K White, was the sport’s Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in ’09.
