First Smart Money Dies
First Smart Money (First Down Dash- Prissy Gold Digger) passed away in his sleep on June 24. During his racing career, he earned $32,613 from a record of 3-4-4(2) from 17 starts, including third place finishes in the 1997 New Mexico Juvenile Challenge-G3
and the 1998 Los Alamitos Stakes. The 1995 stallion is the sire of 13 stakes winners from 136 starters with earnings of nearly $3 million. First Smart Money was owned by Hans & Rebecca Christensen of Frederiksborg Horse Farm in Yale, Oklahoma.
Remington Park Ends Meet, Declares Leaders
Remington Park saw a 13.7% increase in attendance and a 9.7% increase in total handle compared to last year for their 50-day meet that ended June 2. Two-time World Champion Jessies First Down (pictured above), who is owned
by Ted Abrams and trained by James Padgett II, was voted the Horse of the Meeting and Champion Older Male. Other divisional title winners include: Champion Two Year Old Sunnysyde, Champion Three Year Old DF AJ
Green Leaves, Champion Older Mare Apollitical Scout, Champion Distance Runner Blazen Panther, Champion Oklahoma-bred Hold Air Hostage, Champion Paint Painted Turnpike, Champion Appaloosa Admiral Tom, and Champion Claimer Jzoomin Scoot.
Havanah Goodtime Becomes Youngest AQHA Dam Of Distinction
Havanah Goodtime earned the title of Dam of Distinction with only two starters, who were both ranked in the top 10 by money with both being Grade 1 winners. Her first foal, Duponte won the 2016 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 and Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3. Duponte earned $921,237 and was named the 2017 AQHA Champion 3-Year- Old Colt. Her second foal, Nymeria, won the 2017 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 and earned $495,147. Havanah Goodtime, a 2010 mare bred and owned by American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame member/ Champion Breeder Bobby D. Cox, is also the dam of 2018 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 winner Sunnysyde. Havanah Goodtime is not only the youngest mare to receive this honor, she is also the first to earn the title so quickly. Previous winners had at least four starters.
