Information on Double-Registered Horses
If your American Paint Horse will also be registered with the American Quarter Horse Association,
be sure to select a name that is acceptable at both registries at the time of registration. If you plan to race, ALL double-registered horses must be named the same at APHA and AQHA. The horse WILL NOT be allowed to race AT ALL if the names are not the same.
It pays to race a Paint in the Northwest!
APHA is adding a $2,500 Paint Incentive Bonus to the 2019 Harvest Cup Futurity and 2019 Rocky Mountain Futurity Finals. Money will
be split 35%–30%–20%–15% to the top four Paint fastest times of each race. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to earn extra money for racing your Paint in the Northwest!
Regional Racing Awards
Regional racing awards will be presented on an annual basis to horse/owner, breeder and trainer in five regions. Regional awards will be determined by the following system:
a) Horse/owner per region based on APHA Honor Roll points (see Rule RA-060.D1);
b) Breeder and trainer will be based on total money earned in that region—the five regions are: Northwest (WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, ND, SD, UT), Eastern (MI, KY, FL), Central (OK, CO), Southwest (TX, AZ, NM, CA) and Canada.
Winner must be a current APHA member to receive their award.

The photo on page 179 shows American Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame jockeys Robert “Bobby” Adair and Danny Cardoza. Adair
was the first rider to win 100 races at Los Alamitos, with 103 wins in 1969. Perhaps his most memorable race was winning the 1972 Los Alamitos Championship with AQHA Hall of Fame Horse & 2-time World Champion Kaweah Bar. Adair retired in 1984 after a fall that broke his shoulder. He ranks among the top all-time leading jockeys with 13,416 starts, 2,231 wins and earners of over $10.6 million. Adair was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 1999. Danny Cardoza was riding competitively before AQHA kept records. Between 1970 and his retirement in 1991, Cardoza competed in 22,293 races, won 3,337 races and rode the earners of more than $24.9 million to rank #16 on the all-time leading jockey list. Perhaps his most notable riding wins were the Champion of Champions with World Champions Dashs Dream and Gold Coast Express, and the All American Futurity with Champion Pie In The Sky. Cardoza retired from riding in 1991 and went on to become a trainer. He excelled in this aspect of racing
as well, taking his spot on the all-time leading trainer list with the winners of over $4.3 million. He is the first person to both ride a winner of a $1 million race and to train a winner of a $1 million race. Cardoza was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame in 2002.
