Bee Swarm Kills Arizona Horse
Fire Department Division Chief Fire Marshall Don Devendorf of Prescott, Arizona, on April 27 said they responded to a call reporting two women being attacked by bees. Firefighters found them and four horses covered by hundreds of bees. The women were trans- ported to a hospital, where they were treated and released. A veterinarian on the scene deter- mined that two of the horses suffered minor stings. The other two were transported to a clinic where one of the horses died. Some of the dead bees, which were possibly the Africanized variety, were recovered from the scene and sent to the University of Arizona for study.
