Clasico was held on Sept. 11 with the partici- pation of eight three-year-old equine athletes. The distance was 400 yards and the prize $251,600 pesos (approximately $13,569 US). Senor Cawboy was the only one of Mexican upbringing in the race, and he received prefer- ence in the odds for winning the competition, giving him the fight against the imports from the United States.
However, the heavy rain disrupted all fore- casts and forced the three-year-olds and their riders to try and adapt to the difficult weather conditions, with different outcomes through the race.
At the start, the filly Puddles Cash (#6) slipped, lost her balance, and displaced Master Time Dancer (#5) and Senor Cawboy (#4), but she immediately recovered and started her race in the middle of the track, well-managed
