TSING TAO

Steve Burns DVM breeds & races many good horses, so claiming a horse from him can be rewarding. Owner-trainer Valentin Zamudio discovered this when he claimed Tsing Tao from Burns for $8,000 at Los Alamitos late last year. Since the claim, Tsing Tao had won 3 races at Los Alamitos in 7 starts for Zamudio.
The four-year-old gelding most recently captured the City of Firebaugh Stakes at the Fresno Fair on Oct. 16. In the 350-yard contest, Tsing Tao and jockey Juan Arriaga got away in 2nd place from
the 6-hole. They battled with No Mas Vaquero on the rail in the early stages of the contest. Tsing Tao bettered that rival as they neared the wire and pulled away. The gelding was up in the final strides to win by 1/2-length in :18.057. The $8,300 payday from his 1st stakes victory boosted his earnings to $44,878.
Burns bred Tsing Tao in California from Turner On, winner of the 2003 Mile High Futurity-G2 and Rocky Mountain Futurity-G3. The mare, who is a half-sister to two stakes-placed runners, has produced 100% money earners from nine starters, including stakes-placed Banjo Bob who finished second in the 2010 Manuel Lujan Stakes-G3 and fourth in the 2009 Central Juvenile Challenge-G3. Tsing Tao’s third dam is the stakes-winning Thoroughbred Dondamar.
No Mas Vaquero (Volcom-Quiero Mas) was second under Marcial Ramirez for owner Juan Moya and trainer Ricardo Guillen.
Adolfo Ortiz owns and trains third-place finisher Dominicklala (First Down Dash-Ms Pilot Point), who was ridden by Luis Godoy.
