There were 55 foals registered for the American Cup, with 25 confirming to run
in five trials on Sept. 29. Of these, five were qualified to the final, where they competed for a purse of R$300,000 ($150,000 U.S.) and five motorcycles for trainers in the final, and a new car for the winning trainer.
On Sept. 30 was the final of the American Cup GP 2012 – Woorka. The winner was Native Granite (Granite Lake-Empress Baby), ridden by C. Romero and trained by E. Oliveira, owned by Haras Flamboyant and Cowboy Ranch. The 2-year-old crossed the line in :17.55, winning by half a length.
The second-place finisher was Dame Dash Chick (Granite Lake-Minnie Chicks) with a time of :17.61. She was ridden by A. Dutra and trained by M.C. Cruz. The 2-year-old brown filly is owned by Haras São Matheus.
Another race that took place was the
First Special Auction American Cup, won by Separatist One More (Separatist-One More Habit). The 3-year-old gray filly crossed the finish line in :17.27, ridden by J.A. Gomes and trained by J. Sampaio. The filly is owned by Haras Fazenda Bela, Dr. Wellington Germano de Queiroz.
Concluding the events was auction at the Jockey Club was the First American Cup Auction - Woorka, with the support of Haras Prata, Sky Ranch and Jaguaruana. The auc- tion was conducted by WV Auctions, with auctioneer Gilson Genovesi and consultant Gildo Leite.
The sale grossed R$1,257,000 ($617,602 U.S.) with an average of R $34,800.00 ($17,098 U.S.). The highest-seller was the filly Black Prize Zoom (PYC Paint Your Wagon-Fast Prize Zoom, Shazoom), bought by Haras LN for R$120,000 ($58,000). Finally, Eric Braga said that the idea of holding an auction along with the races was precisely for the purpose of selling these horses to compete next year at this same event. “Remember, what enabled the animals to
run in the GP American Cup are those born between Jan. 1 and June 30—animals born on the American calendar. Thus, we provide opportunities for them to compete without being hampered by age.”
