UQHRA Fall Mixed Sale Results
The Utah Quarter Horse Racing Association held their annual Fall Mixed Sale on Sept. 11, with preliminary results showing 33 yearlings selling for $103,700. The $10,200 high seller
was Hip #46, Coctelera (Stoli-Jess Celebrating, Mr Jess Perry). The yearling filly, who was consigned by Randy Young and purchased by Gary Laramie, is a half-sister to the dam of 2016 Heritage Place Futurity-G1 winner Duponte. The second-highest seller at $9,600 was Hip #58, Lt Heza Winner (Winners Version-Nurturist, Separatist). The yearling gelding was consigned by Tom Peterson and purchased by Aron Saenz. Gary Laramie was the top buyer with three pur- chases; the leading consignor/agent was A & C Racing; and the leading sire of yearlings by aver- age with two or more sold was Winners Version.
AAEP Distributes Nearly $460,000 To Benefit The Welfare Of The Horse
The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) Foundation has approved 2016 funding for $459,198 for 27 equine organizations and special projects committed to improving the welfare of the horse. Among the initiatives receiving support are veterinary students scholarships and educational pro- grams, equine research, Equitarian workshops, unwanted horse programs, and professional and youth development.
New Soccer Field At Los Alamitos
With the approval of Los Alamitos
Race Course management, the grounds crew has built a soccer field behind the
wall of the far turn of the one-mile track for backside employees. Since Aug. 23, the field has hosted a 6 vs. 6 soccer tourna- ment consisting of teams compromised of barn area employees and Los Alamitos staff. The victorious team will be awarded new soccer uniforms. The Orange County track hopes that this will become a long-lasting tradition.
Jess Good Candy to Stand At Lazy E Ranch
PV Quarter Horse Farms LLC announced that 2-Time Champion Jess Good Candy (Good Reason SA-Jess Send Candy, Mr Jess Perry) will enter stud at Lazy E Ranch in 2017. Trained by Clinton Crawford, Jess Good Candy earned $2,014,703 winning 8-of-8 starts, including the All American Futurity-G1, Ruidoso Derby-G1, and Mr Master Bug Handicap. The stud fee for Jess Good Candy, who was bred by the one of the industry’s most successful breeders of all time, Carl Pevehouse, has been set at $9,500.
Australian Bookmakers Want To Offer Markets On QH Racing
Australian bookmakers are exploring ways
to offer betting on Quarter Horse racing,
which is set to be legalized in Queensland, in
an attempt to make up for revenue losses when their greyhound-racing ban takes effect on July 1, 2017. The Australian Quarter Horse Racing Development has earmarked Queensland tracks at Gympie and Warwick for its start-up venue.
A proposed $60 million project for Quarter Horse racing that was announced in 2014 on the premise of creating employment and business opportunities in the region. However, it has stalled on several occasions. Renewed efforts to get Quarter Horse racing off the ground have recently increased.
