OPEN ME A CORONA

Champions Day Classic at Fair Grounds Racecourse. Prepped by Bobby Martinez and ridden by Saul Ramirez Jr., Open Me A Corona went 440 yards in
:21.981 while defeating Scooter Prize by a clear 1 1/2-lengths. The horse ended his racing career with a six-race win streak, as he will stand the 2016 season at Robicheaux Ranch.
“We’re happy for the horse, but sad not to be rac- ing him again,” said Hays. “But it’s time to see if his babies will be as good as he is.”
Open Me A Corona was bred by Dr. Natalie Montgomery of Pineville, Louisiana. The horse is one of four winners from six starters foaled by the mare In The Open. Open Me A Corona is a half brother to two graded stakes placed runners, including 2014 Delta Downs Louisiana-Bred D. runner-up Im Jess Blue.
Raced exclusively in Louisiana, Open Me A Corona wound up with 12 wins in 14 starts and earnings of $743,542, of which $461,277 was banked during a 2-year-old season in which he won the state’s richest race for any breed, the $1-million LQHBA Futurity at Evangeline Downs. The horse won nine stakes, five of which were graded.

N Leavin (Coronas Leaving You-Streakin Juanita) finished third. The 4-year-old gelding was ridden by Antonio Alberto for owner Jose O. Barron and trainer Manuel Macias.
Heza Fast Rogue (Heza Fast Dash-Miss Jess Rogue), JLS Mr Bigtime (Bigtime Favorite-Psalmist), Shesa Dashingromance (Heza Fast Dash- Dash N To Romance) & JJS Black Lace (Jet Black Patriot-Lethal N Lace) completed the order of finish.

ZOOMIN FOR BUGS

Zoomin For Bugs, a 3-year-old gelding campaigned by Joan Rood of Roanoke, Louisiana, earned his second career stakes win in the Dec. 12, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Derby for state-bred sophomores at Fair Grounds Racecourse.
Ridden by Armando Ramirez for trainer Danny Mittag, Zoomin For Bugs went wire-to-wire and defeated Strong Guns by a head in :20.228 for
400 yards. The $45,000 winner’s share upped his bankroll to $180,480, of which $134,662 has been banked this season.
Zoomin For Bugs was bred by Dennis Miller of Deville, Louisiana. Zoomin For Bugs is one of two winners from as many starters foaled by the winning homebred mare Toast To Bugs. The gelding was making his first start since Oct. 2, when he ran sec- ond against older runners and open company in the 220-yard $20,000 Evangeline Downs Dash.
All told, Zoomin For Bugs has won six of 15 races, including the 250-yard, $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes at Delta Downs on July 11.
Runner-up Strong Guns (Strong Hope-Gunslinger Girl) races for Lester Colomb Jr. from the barn of trainer Kenneth Weeks. Ray Mayo rode the bay gelding.
Heza Louisiana Dash (Heza Fast Dash- Eyejesslovelouisiana) finished third for owner TM Ranch. Gilbert Ortiz rode the gelding for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr.

JET BLACK ZOOMER

Antonio Alberto rode Jet Black Zoomer to an upset victory in the 350-yard $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile-RG2 at Fair Grounds Racecourse on Dec. 12.
Saddled by Kelli Smith for owner Joseph Landreneau of Ville Platte, Louisiana, Jet Black Zoomer defeated Micmac Warrior by 1/2-length in :17.897. Jet Black Zoomer has won two of eight outs, and the $45,000 winner’s share of the purse pushed his earnings to $72,196.
Jet Black Zoomer was acquired by Landreneau for $20,000 from breeder SKT Farms Inc. at last year’s LQHBA Yearling Sale. A full brother to two-time graded stakes qualifier Mudbug, Jet Black Zoomer
is one of two winners from five starters produced by the unraced mare Dealazoom. He was three weeks removed from a 1-length victory in a 400-yard maiden special weight race at Evangeline Downs.
Micmac Warrior was disqualified from second and placed fourth, moving Telarosa (Jet Black Patriot-Presumptuous) into the runner-up spot. Kenneth Roberts prepped and Lucas Constantin rode the filly for owner Douglas O. Traylor.
Timothy and Theresa Stephens’ Fast Ladys Man (Jet Black Patriot-Miss Fortune Lady) was placed third. Saul Ramirez Jr. rode the homebred gelding for trainer Trey Ellis.
