                                Mexican Bred Juvenile Challenge
GAME SAMBASO
by Luis Prieto Zamudio, translation by Eduardo Silveyra
We can describe the final of the sec-
ond edition of this young classic as a “high and low” for the Mexican individuals auctioned. The highest part was the placing
of Game Sambaso and La Loba By Rabbits, who came in an unquestionable first and third, respectively. Game Sambaso gave a formidable race at 350 yards despite being hit by Ferdy Ruby at the beginning of the race, tilting the outcome in his favor in a photo finish and add- ing to his account 824,619 pesos ($49,688 US approximately) from a total purse of 1,792,650 pesos (approximately US $108,017), as well as his third victory in eight official appearances.
His time was 17.71 seconds, for an 82 speed index, almost equaling the 17.707 seconds with which he qualified for the fourth fastest time. Game Sambaso had excellent support from rider Ismael Parra Martinez and trainer Eleazar Ruvalcaba Vazquez in both races.
Game Sambaso was bred and owned by Everardo Muzquiz, whose ranch also produced Shiney Six, winner of this juvenile in 2014 and the corresponding derby in 2015. Unfortunately, that filly died a few weeks after the victory.
The lowest part of the race is attributable to the performance of several individuals, but especially the paralysis of the judges to issue
a verdict that took into account the offenses committed and the damage caused to several others. This involved the occupants of the positions 4 through 10. Some gave, and conse- quently, others received.
Another debacle came after the fault of Ferdy Ruby on Game Sambaso, in the contact between Set Sambaso and Silver Perry, caused because the two were in coincidental trajectories and where Set Sambaso took the brunt. Then followed a crash was between El Japones and N Sure. El Japones impacted N Sure and bounced off and hit Silver Perry, which hit Set Sambaso even stronger, leaving him out of the competition.
The surge continued when N Sure took with him RG Maléfika Cartel, while Danny BN was bumped by Im Native Princess who was moving inwards, forming a “brawl” that
is difficult to describe, yet fouled the develop- ment of the race. From that knot of horses came off Im Native Princess with Eddi Cuellar in charge getting to second place, while Silver Perry captured fourth place. Immediately the inquiry by the judges was announced and sev- eral protests of those affected were presented.
After a long wait, it was confirmed by the speakers that the “arrival is official.” Nobody
celebrated, only the winner’s team came down to the ceremonial awards to take photos.
The fans and those
interested in the race were
waiting for an explanation,
like that on Aug. 16 in the
equally rugged finish of the AQHA Juvenile Challenge. On that occasion, it was the mov- ing of the original four finishing places that came into question. Now, it might have been reasonable to explain why they had kept the original order after everyone saw the “dirt” of the race.
These actions increase the already growing discontent by Quarter Horse owners and the fans due to the series of recent arbitrary deci- sions that have been at least questionable.
Well and after the conflict, the full official order was as follows:
In first, Game Sambaso (Sambaso Dancer - The Answer Lady, by Corona Cartel), with Ismael Parra Martinez in charge, owned
by Everardo Muzquiz, for trainer Eleazar Ruvalcaba Vazquez.
Followed by: Im Native Princess (Native Cartel – Princess Tenaya), La Loba By Rabbits (Rabbits Rainbow – Moskovita), Silver Perry (Jesstified – Ziplock Chick), Ferdy Ruby (Tres Ruby – Super Fer TB), Rg Malefika Cartel (Danny Cartel – La Chuchena), El Japonés (Danny Cartel – To Chickuma), Danny BN
(Danny Cartel – Oughter BN Boots), N Sure (Native Cartel – Sure Alibi), and Set Sambaso (Sambaso Dancer – Jet Settin Jessie).
