from his first crop when One Dashing Eagle won the All American in 2012. Trotter would have shared the accolades with Reliance Ranches LLC, who purchased an interest in Hez Our Secret in 2017. Mr Secret Glory didn’t win
the All American Futurity, however, but his fifth-place effort netted the gelding $150,000, capping his year-end bankroll at $155,200.
Hez Our Secret started his sire career at the famed Four Sixes Ranch, and it was Burnett Ranches LLC that bred his third-leading earner, Hez Our Boy. Following his March 4 trial win, Hez Our Boy returned to run a game third in the Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity-G3 for trainer Josue Ponce and owner Almada Racing. The gelding ended the 2017 season with $57,321 amassed after just three starts.
The hard-knocking gelding Fast Prize Rumor out of Coronas Fast Prize never finished lower than third in seven starts while earning $31,296. Bred by Weetona Stanley, who also bred Hez Our Prize, Fast Prize Rumor’s year included a show finish in the Oklahoma Juvenile Invitational and a runner-up effort in the Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge. John Weghorst trained Fast Prize Rumor for owner Jose Guzman.
Trotter also bred Jessalilsecret, who raced for owner Keith Bode and trainer Randy Smith in 2017. Campaigning in Indiana, Jessalilsecret (out of Jess Cranky) made three starts as a 2 year old and won his first two, both of which were trial races. His third outing of the year resulted in a third-place finish in the Speed Sale Stakes.
The lack of a stakes winner in his first crop shouldn’t concern anyone who watched Hez Our Secret run down the track. The stallion,
who was known for his ground-covering stride and fierce competitive streak, won just one stakes race – the Z. Wayne Griffin Director’s Stake – during his illustrious career. Overall, he won six of 20 starts, and only two of those races weren’t in trials or stakes company.
At two, Hez Our Secret was impressive while posting a 2 1/4-length win in a trial for the Rainbow Futurity-G1. He underwent emergency colic surgery prior to the finals, however, and missed the remainder of the Ruidoso Downs meet. Reappearing in California in the fall, Hez Our Secret qualified for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course and finished fourth in the finals. His yearly earnings totaled $172,943.
Hez Our Secret excelled as a 3 year old
and put together a $630,252 campaign that ended with his being named 2012 AQHA Champion 3-Year-Old Colt. Among his biggest achievements that year were a second-place finish behind all-time leading money earner Ochoa in the All American Derby-G1, another second in the Los Alamitos Super Derby-G1, a win in the Z. Wayne Griffin Director’s Stakes, and a fourth behind Champion Rylees Boy in the Grade 1 Champion of Champions.
In 2013, Hez Our Secret continued to face the toughest horses in the country, finishing second to Champion Ochoa in the Robert L. Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship-G1
and third to Rylees Boy in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship-G1. He was also a finalist in the Go Man Go Handicap-G1 and recorded
a second-place finish in the Z. Wayne Griffin Directors’ Stakes, then accepted a berth to the
