SIRE OF SIRES
A key to the success of any stallion
is through his sons, and Beduino is no exception. Beduino has two sons and three grandsons ranked in the top 35 money earning sires, including Runaway Winner with $13,729,836 in earnings. Beduinos’ leading money earner is Treacherously, winner of $622,004. The pedigree of Runaway Winner shows that his dam has a breeding pattern of 4x4 to Depth Charge, giving Runaway Winner a breeding pattern of 4x5x5 to Depth Charge.
Chicks Beduino, another son of Beduino, is #5 on the All-Time Leading Sire List
of Money Earners. His foals have earned $36,497,062 and his leading money winner is Whosleavingwho with $1,334,842 in earnings.
The three grandsons of Beduino on this leading sire list are Game Patriot with sire earnings of $28,473,247; Separatist with sire earnings of $24,029,961; and This Snow Is Royal with sire earnings of $13,954,004. All three of these sires are sons of Chicks Beduino.
THE BROODMARE SIRE
The review of the horses we have featured here and sired by Beduino show that this great stallion was at the height of his popularity and success as a sire during the mid to late 1980’s. This is when the next chapter in the success of Beduino comes into play. It was in 1988 that First Down Dash joined the stallion roster at Vessels Stallion Farm.
First Down Dash, by Dash For Cash, was purchased by the Vessels Stallion Farm as a yearling and raced by them. He won 13 of his 15 starts with five stakes wins, including the 1987 Champion of Champions-G1. He was the 1987 World Champion, Champion 3 Year Old and Champion 3-Year-Old Colt.
First Down Dash retired to stand beside Beduino and his first foals hit the ground in 1989. Among his first stakes winners was 1991 All American Futurity-G1 winner Royal Quick Dash. He was the first of six All American Futurity winners sired by First Down Dash, with two of them being out of daughters and one out of a granddaughter of Beduino.
Royal Quick Dash is out of Harems Choice by Beduino. Harems Choice produced 18 foals with 13 of them sired
by First Down Dash. They produced 11 ROM and five stakes winners. The other stakes winners are 1998 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity-G1 winner First Sovereign; 2003 Los Alamitos Million-G1 winner A Regal Choice; 2010 Southern California Derby-G1 winner Harems Last Dash; and First Rate Choice, winner of the 2003 Pocahontas Handicap. Harems Choice was out of Flicka Your Bic by Tiny Charger by Depth Charge.
2012 Champion 3-Year-Old Colt
Mr Secret Glory, the leading money earner by a Hez Our Secret with $155,200, won his trial to the All American Futurity-G1 and was fifth in the finals.
Two-time winner Hez Our Prize was second in the Ruidoso Juvenile Invitational and third in the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Futurity-RG2, earning $138,153.
This gives Harems Choice a 4x3 breeding pattern to Depth Charge.
Dash Thru Traffic, by First Down Dash, won the 1992 All American Futurity-G1. The dam of Dash Thru Traffic was Lady Meter Reader by Beduino. Lady Meter Reader is out of Chronometer by Tiny Charger by Depth Charge. This gives her a breeding pattern of 4x3 to Depth Charge through her sire and dam.
Corona Cash is the 1997 All American Futurity winner. She is by First Down Dash and out of Corona Chick by Chicks Beduino by Beduino. Sizzling Lil, the dam of Corona Chick, is by Sizzle Te by Azure Te, who is out of Blue One by Count Fleet, who is out of Quickly who is the dam of Depth Charge. This gives Corona Chick a breeding pattern of 6 X 6 to Quickly.
First Down Dash has sired six Champion of Champions-G1 winners, including A Ransom, Wave Carver and Ocean Runaway. These three runners reinforce how the sons of Beduino as broodmare sires have worked with First Down Dash. A Ransom won the 2000 Champion of Champions-G1. His dam is Chicks Got Pizzazz by Chicks Beduino. Wave Carver won the 2006 Champion of Champions-G1 and he is a full brother
to Ocean Runaway, who won the 2005 Champion of Champions-G1. The dam
of these two runners is Runaway Wave by Runaway Winner by Beduino. Runaway Winner is out of Miss Fast Chic by Fast Jet and out of Serena Chic. Miss Fast Chic has two crosses to Depth Charge through her sire and dam. These two crosses give the pedigree of Runaway Winner a breeding pattern of 4x5x5 to Depth Charge.
#1 FRESHMAN SIRE OF 2017
Hez Our Secret is the 2017 Leading Freshman Sire of Money Earners. He gives us another example of the First Down Dash nick with Beduino line mares. When we look at Hez Our Secret’s first runners, we get some linebreeding to the First Down Dash/ Beduino cross that highlights the success of Beduino as a factor in the pedigree.
The sire of Hez Our Secret is First Down Dash. His dam is Secret Separation, a stakes placed mare who finished third in the Corona Chick Handicap-G3. She is by Champion Separatist, a son of Chicks Beduino by Beduino. The dam of Secret Separation is Dicey Secret by Raise A Secret. Dicey Secret is the dam of First Down Dash’s 2006 All American Futurity-G1 winner No Secrets Here, making him a 3/4-brother to Hez Our Secret.
Hez Our Secret was bred by Vessels Stallion Farm. He was purchased as a yearling and raced by Johnny Trotter. He is now owned by Johnny Trotter and Reliance Ranch LLC. His race record shows that
he was a consistent racehorse, running 20 times from two to four with a record of
six wins, five seconds and two thirds and earning $887,426.
The race record of Hez Our Secret indicates that he was a hard knocking racehorse, but a closer look will show how
he overcame adversity to be a consistent runner. He had five starts at two, with two wins and a second. He qualified for the 2011 Rainbow Futurity-G1 with a trial win and the fifth fastest qualifying time. Hez Our Secret developed colic and underwent surgery before the finals. He then came back after 118 days to qualify for the Los Alamitos Two
